3 Gun - Sport I fell in love with. Plans for 2018 and 2019

in #guns7 years ago (edited)

Inspired by recent @galenkp post about IPSC I've decided to present sport I fell in love with from first sight - 3 Gun

What 3 Gun is

3 Gun is form of practical shooting a lot like IPCS but with one significant difference. As you might figure out 3 Gun involves up to three guns at one stage. As every practical shooting discipline 3 gun involves a lot of jumping, kneeling, running, shooting from prone position.

Targets also are different then most of you may know from regular target shooting. In 3 Gun we use regular IPSC targets and so called poppers - reactive metal targets placed in various order and variants. Don't look scared to see Texan Star in your 3 Gun match.

Categories

In 3 Gun share are categories, that allow different kind of equipment as you might know it from IPSC. In most popular here in Poland 3 Gun Match, Western League we have 4 categories:

  • Classic - semi-auto shotguns are restricted, no muzzle breaks on pistol nor shotgun, iron sights only, no mag wells
  • Tactical - allowed mag well on pistol and rifle, allowed optics with max 1.1x magnitude
  • Tactical plus - optics with max 1.1x magnitude allowed on every gun, mag wells allowed on every gun, allowed semi-auto shotguns without bucket magazines (like Benelli M2, or Mossberg JM 930)
  • Open - basically - any mods allowed :D. There you can see guns like this one:

My start with 3 Gun

I've started to completing my gear and train to this specific kind of competition from this year to get my first start in Western 3 Gun League in September. To start In 3 Gun you have to have:

  • Rifle (any kind, semiautomatic AR-15 or AK)
  • Shotgun (pump action or semi automatic, depends on division)
  • Pistol

That's all. For start I'll choose cheapest gear I can get, to spend money on ammunition. For now I've chosen for my production starts:

  • H&K SFP9 9mm pistol
  • Mossberg Maverick 88 pump action shotgun
  • S&W MP-15 Sport II rifle. (still need to buy this one)

Why cheap way? I want to show, that this sport is for everyone, so I choose guns that summed up don't exceed $2500 in here, and still are reliable and easy to fix/upgrade.

Plans for 2018?

I want to train as much as I can and prepare for first match in September, maybe a bit before. I will post here my whole journey in 3 Gun world, training, tips, gear and videos from my 3 Gun matches.

Thanks, @galenkp for motivation, keep posting your IPSC progress. So... Wish me luck and stay tuned :D
