The weapon used in the shooting wasn't automatic. Automatic weapons are already heavily regulated with a national database, special taxes and manufacturing restrictions.

Yeah okay the AR 15 is a semi-automatic rifle which can have a bump stock and other conversions to make it basically an automatic weapon. Debating vocabulary sidesteps the issue that increased gun control is a necessary preemptive step to try to defuse the environment where such attacks on schools happen. The NRAs refusal to even discuss possible regulation shows that they value guns over human lives and hold us hostage, and especially students and minority groups, to a culture of violence and intimidation. The fact that I wrote automatic instead of assault or semi-automatic is beside the point entirely.
