It has been almost two months since my first post The humanity of Habitat for Humanity where I introduced you to Habitat and Stephanie's home.
I would like to show you what happened on the house in March and April and how far the house has come along in these two months.
Yes, the house now has a roof, and windows and walls! So exciting.
March 4th
March 4, 2023 was a beautiful morning and we worked a lot on the second floor.
I was given a section to block and I am so excited that I felt confident enough to measure, saw and nail with a nail gun!
A month before I didn't know how to use any of these tools or what blocking is.
Blocking is putting extra support in the walls for structures like cabinets, railings etc. And boy do are we putting a lot of blocking in this house! One of the team leads told me that Habitat puts in more blocking than is probably necessary. it Also makes it nice when you are putting up the structures cause there is support to hang it.
I got a look at the plans. Hopefully someday I will be able to understand them too. :)
Each week volunteers come from a different company. Here Stephanie, the homeowner, is telling the volunteers her story and how she came to have a house from Habitat.
March 11, 2023
More blocking today.
Danielle and I worked on blocking the staircase, for the handrail. It was a bit of the blind leading the blind, we had a good time, even if it a bit crooked!
March 25th
March 25, 2023 was the day the crane came and installed the top of the house. I was really cool to see a crane up close and in motion.
We also did a little painting this day.
April 15th
I worked with Wally and did both blocking for the ceiling dry wall and some shelf blocking.
One of my favorite things is finding the sweet messages all over the house as we are working.
The house has come a long way in a couple of months and my knowledge and experiences are 100% more than when I started. I knew nothing and now I am confident enough to to do some small projects on my own using power tools!
I discovered this post by chance...impressive work!
Thanks @toofasteddie It has been such a great opportunity.
