• Write a haiku related to the prompt image. The haiku should be composed by 3 verses with no title. The 1st verse should be 5 syllables long, the 2nd verse should be 7 syllables long, and the 3rd verse should be 5 syllables long again.
• If you aren’t confident with English enough, you can write your haiku in Spanish, French, or Italian as well. Only remember, if you write in languages different from English, please include an English translation for other readers.
• Post the haiku on your blog or in the comment section below this post. If you make your own post, don’t forget to put the link to it in the comment section below!

WRITE A HALLOWEEN THEMED HAIKU, using or not using the given image at your choice!
• Kireji (切れ字), a cut between the 1st and the 2nd verses, or between the 2nd and the 3rd; the cut can be grammatical, as a sign of punctuation, or it can be a cut in the meaning, like two different images.
• Kigo (季語), an explicit or implicit reference to a season, that defines the time of the year in which the haiku is composed or referred to.
• Sabi (寂), the sense of the inexorable passage of time, the beauty or serenity that accompanies the advance of age, when the life of the objects and its impermanence are highlighted by patina and wear or by any visible repairs.
• Wabi (侘寂), the taste for frugal and natural things, rustic simplicity, freshness or silence; it can be applied to both natural and artificial objects, or even non-ostentatious elegance.
• Mono no aware (物の哀れ), empathy with nature and human life; the "feeling of things", nostalgia, regret for the passing of time, understanding of the changeability and of the transience without suffering.
• Yūgen (幽玄), sense of wonder and mystery; it represents the state of mind produced by the inexplicable fascination of things, the feeling of an 'other' universe, full of mysterious unity.
• Karumi (軽み), beauty in simplicity; poetic beauty reflected in its simplicity, free from preconceptions and moral judgment.
• Shiori (しおり), gentleness; the levity and the delicate charm that radiates from the verses, where things are evoked in the reader without aggressiveness or excessive explicitness.
Submission deadline: Wednesday 7th November, 11:59 PM, GMT -7 (Pacific Daylight Time).
The results will be out on Thursday 8th November, 1:00 PM, GMT -7 (Pacific Daylight Time).

...And don't forget, every Wednesday:
We already broke the record, and 2 days are left to post new entries!
Now, the second part of the task:
Vote your favorite haiku down here!
My selected haijin for this edition are @gaby-crb, @cyemela, @gwilberiol, @theironfelix. I will choose @cyemela for his capability of blending together semplicity, sense of transience and a halo of mistery. I appreciate the use of the ghost word, simple and in syntony with the playful aspect of halloween (I tried also to keep this mood in my haiku discarding purposedly a finest interpretation in favor of a spookiest version).
My vote is for @arehany
Because we cannot #selfvote; so: @calluna. Also remember when the haiku post was [expunged by a spoopy skeleton] Anyways, if thou requirethethetheth (yes that many eths) a reason: the many haikus for which I had a pleasure to enjoy reading. Anyways, good that this blerrie haiku contest is back on track. So, salute to that:
Since my appreciation, three exercises stand out, especially (I have already given them my vote); they are @arehany, @insight-out and @blueeyes8960. I find it difficult to choose between them, because all three, in my perspective, are very good, but, since I have to select one, I would keep @arehany.
It is a poetic text of great conciseness and expressiveness, which concentrates its proposal in images that account for what is present in photography, but also open up suggestive impressions, in tune with what is requested, that is, the psychological atmosphere linked to Halloween. The poetic gaze rests on what perhaps most attracts the viewer's attention: the sky, which simply qualifies as autumnal; not only for the month, but for what of decadence can be in the environment. Then, he registers what the view also testifies: the dark threshold, to end with the phrase that gives the poem significant strength in the key of the ephemeris: fear.
I'm going to join @gaby-crb on this one: it's @arehany. Works in Spanish and English. Plus, I like the little essay that accompanied the haiku
My vote is for @gwilberiol for giving me a shiver. There were SO many great haiku that it was really tough to choose.
I lost track of this--a moment to reflect on your evocative picture:
Clouding sky in blue
Silent relic, castle shell
Holds its secrets close
Ooh! Love your second line!
Thank you! I love writing these... not so much the writing as the contemplation. I guess that's the point, isn't it?
😁 Agreed! The photo prompts are so interesting that my brain carries off into a storyline and then I have to stop and return to my first thought when I saw the image. #squirrelbrain
I think @f3nix is very happy to read that his photo made you stop and reflect! :D
Nice entry!
It might be too late to escape!
No one escapes from Mastro Alexander's stories and poems!
No procrastinating this week. Can't wait for the ghoulish feedback. 8-)

My Entry
There are two weeks this time bud 👍
I wanna scream and shout and let it all out! Scream and shout and let it all out!
But disregarding that lil’ error, I’ll be done with my “The Weekly Bananafish” very soon!!!
Sometimes, a runaway # can make all the post scream! :P
Some spooky stuff for the Halloween special. A ghastly to do, in the form of Haiku and a little extra poetry at the end:

Oooh.. what do we have here! Is that bound in human leather?
Yes... bound in the finest skin of the longpig. Purely for research purposes of course. 🎃
Oh, Gosh! I can't believe I am actually making an entry. I am not sure if this is haiku. Anyway, I had fun making it :D
Believe it! :-D it's an amazing exercise for the mind and your haiku actually inspired me to write mine.
Oh, I can't wait to read it! :)
Skeletal tree stumps
Are her only guests now, yet
Ivy holds her still
You have made a personification of the old villa giving it a feminine soul, beautiful image!
This is lovely (and lonely) Calluna! Makes me wish the castle had legs like Baba Yaga's house so that it could move.
Starting to get a feel for haiku. Here's my entry:

The haiku effect! We should write a story about it 😜
That's a great idea! It could be a Finish the Story prompt set in Japan circa 1600s with a Haiku master.

This pic was disturbing.. sorry but, after I bumped on the image 100 times when curating the entries, I've to say it XD
This was one in a series of three.
Yup!
Now you're sorry!

Hey, Mizu No Oto Community!
After some time without posting any haiku, I have decided to join in here; although I am fond of nature and traditional haiku, I felt strongly attracted by the prompt image and the fact that it was about the supernatural (like a different kind of nature, huh?). I've been reading other entries, and they are really good and inspiring. I'm really excited to see what is next.
