For those that want to unleash their poetic potential, here is how this contest works:

• Look at the prompt image and let yourself be inspired by it.

• Write a haiku related to the prompt image. The haiku should be composed by 1-3 short verses with no title. The classical haiku form is 3 verses of 5/7/5 syllables, but other forms are allowed, as long as they remain in absolute brevity.

• If you aren’t confident with English enough, you can write your haiku in Spanish, French, or Italian as well. Only remember, if you write in languages different from English, please include an English translation for other readers.

• Post the haiku on your blog or in the comment section below this post. If you make your own post, don’t forget to put the link to it in the comment section below!

Don't forget to use the tag:

Do you want to know how we evaluate the submitted haiku? These are the characteristics we search for (but not mandatorily):

• Kireji (切れ字), a cut between the 1st and the 2nd verses, or between the 2nd and the 3rd; the cut can be grammatical, as a sign of punctuation, or it can be a cut in the meaning, like two different images.

• Kigo (季語), an explicit or implicit reference to a season, that defines the time of the year in which the haiku is composed or referred to.

• Sabi (寂), the sense of the inexorable passage of time, the beauty or serenity that accompanies the advance of age, when the life of the objects and its impermanence are highlighted by patina and wear or by any visible repairs.

• Wabi (侘寂), the taste for frugal and natural things, rustic simplicity, freshness or silence; it can be applied to both natural and artificial objects, or even non-ostentatious elegance.

• Mono no aware (物の哀れ), empathy with nature and human life; the "feeling of things", nostalgia, regret for the passing of time, understanding of the changeability and of the transience without suffering.

• Yūgen (幽玄), sense of wonder and mystery; it represents the state of mind produced by the inexplicable fascination of things, the feeling of an 'other' universe, full of mysterious unity.

• Karumi (軽み), beauty in simplicity; poetic beauty reflected in its simplicity, free from preconceptions and moral judgment.

• Shiori (しおり), gentleness; the levity and the delicate charm that radiates from the verses, where things are evoked in the reader without aggressiveness or excessive explicitness.

Greetings, friends of @bananafish, in particular to @marcoriccardi. The photo. full of tenderness, has given various exercises from ironic and humorous, to those of more lyrical mood. I dared to make a selection of my own that puts first the exercise of @adcabrera, then @salvao and then @cyemela. In the last two I appreciate a good game with irony and a certain tone of humour; in the first - to which I give my vote - I highlight its lyrical quality, with precise and delicate words, and a very interesting opening of meaning.

I think I'm going to go with Oscarina, and her sweet kitty. The only reason I'm voting is because I don't want to waste the vote, but I could list here all the clever and moving haiku. I don't know how you choose a winner. I couldn't.

My comment here? Show me a picture of a kitten, and you make me smile :)

A place for my chin.
It's your hat? Not anymore
Makes a perfect bed

It would be a very strange hat! But the attitude of the cat is just that!

Looks like a hat to me...which is why my daughter is still trying to teach me how to dress properly :)

cardboard is too cheap
bed means luxury and warmth
if i fit, i sleep

Welcome to Mizu No Oto!
Speaking of luxury, as my girlfriend says: "Cat food is more expensive than ours!"

Here be me entry for this contest 'ere:

Fluffy snug in fluff
"D'aw! Look at kitters sleepin'!"
Slink, tug, rustle, purr~

Hi, amigos @bananafish. My entry:

Cierra los ojos.

Cede al blando calor:

es tu universo.

Close your eyes.

Surrender to soft heat:

your universe.

Una gran participación, apreciado @salvao.
Me gustó el contraste que estableces entre el gato y la piel que le da abrigo.

Good luck to all with the Haiku

Hi! I'll participate this time. And you?

I think this one is too difficult for me. I only wrote Dutch Haiku a few time. I noticed this is different. I do not believe nature etc had to be a part of it for example.

Jump in...forgive me. But it costs you nothing. Post it as a comment here. I can't write haiku. I just count the syllables and describe what I see. It's fun. Sorry to be such a cheerleader, but I used to be a teacher and it comes with the job. If you post one, I will vote for it, promise 😃

Hi! I'll be happy if you do the same with mine, jejej

just as my VP rebuilds, I will.... Happily
Where is it?

I will see if I can see/load the pic

Posted using Partiko Android

Just describe the image, in 3 lines into haiku rules.

@wakeupkitty

@agmoore is right! Feel free to jump in, we are curious to read every haiku

I'm allergic to cats but made an exception for this one, it's digital.

Haiku is a nice experience and with that photography is specially nice.

Here's my Haiku!

Flojo gatito,
durmiendo sobre pieles
de sus hermanos.

Lazy kitty,
sleeping on skins
of his brothers.

I hope this is not true

Posted using Partiko Android

I hope it too! But... well, i wrote it thinking in every animal as a brother.

That's a cat bed in synthetic material (plush and nylon, I think), no animal (or hat) has been mistreated in the shot of this photo!

I know what it is. My cats never had one but the ferrets did
