Only We Can Make Ourselves Happy

What many perceive to be “the good life” is the vision of material wealth and an abundance of objective ‘things’ he or she might surround their lives with. People believe their happiness derives from a form of identification. By identifying with material objects, people believe those objects to be a direct extension of their personal self. I believe the ingredients to living a good life come from within one’s self, not from any outside source. Only we can make ourselves happy.

The More I Have, The More I Am

Eckhart Tolle, a kind of crazy new age author, presents us with the argument that people look to objective things to provide a sort of foundation to having a good life. I think that this is an argument we can all agree on. He says people tend to live with the mindset “I have therefore I am. And the more I have, the more I am.”.

People look for themselves in the material objects they accumulate, when in fact that is the farthest thing from who they really are. Material objects may give a person the illusion of happiness, but it is human nature to want more and soon people will indeed always want more.

Take this story my grandmother once told me, for example. A beautiful woman marries the husband of her dreams, has two perfect children, and moves into the perfect house. Yet for an unknown reason the woman keeps having vivid nightmares of herself throwing her infant child off the roof, murdering the child. Why would this happen? It is my belief that even though she had everything she thought she wanted, her mind still created stress in her life when clearly there was no need for it.

The truth is we are all born of this world and are creatures of this world. We need stress to survive, it was a tool in our evolutionary process. Even if you have the money, the house, the car, the hot wife you may still be unhappy.

Take With You Only What You Need

The key to a good life is to live a life free from pointless anxiety that our minds create for ourselves every day. Observe your Children, they are not overburdened with irrational stress (granted they have less responsibility) they are free to experience emotions and then let it go.

Don't hold on to everything only carry with you what you can take with. Stress only about what you can fix and try to embrace the knowledge that surrounds you. Try to look at the world free of judging eyes, and to love and be loved. Go out there and be happy, train your mind to focus on what's important, and do something nice for someone. You'd be surprised how good your life can be.

Thanks, I appreciate your comment. Have a great day!

Definitely agree with you "Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass but learning to dance in the rain"

Sorry but that horse is terrifying.

Resteemed. Life is a gift you can overdosed with strees.

Badger you love unbelievably happy in the picture ! I totally agree with you but on the other hand I’ve never seen a sad person on a jet ski. Money does contribute to the not so happiness. I think once you reach a certain level of financial security you will not get any happier .
