When did it start
The International Women's Day was organized by the Socialist Party of America on February 28, 1909. The Soviet Union was declared a national holiday on 8 March after women were granted the franchise in 1917. The first theme of International Women's Day was 'Celebrating the Past, Planning for the Future'. The purpose of declaring International Women's Day is to promote women's rights and world peace.
