My thoughts on the hive fork

in #hardfork4 years ago

Hey, Hive community. Some of you may know me, a lot of you probably do not at this point.

I was one of the first people involved in mining steem(before steemit). My earliest account is in the low hundreds for account id #, it was mostly just me on a weak vm battling against the multiple high powered servers set up by ned and dan on launch. It was obvious from the start that there were plans for total centralization. We tried to combat this by helping others make the build. But, there was still one big unknown, vesting. The way SP worked back then is there would be huge percentage increase to the vested amounts I do not remember the % but it was insane. If it had not been for this, the ninja-stake amount would have been less and spread more evenly between early users. There was purposely no documentation about this. So yeah, this destroyed my faith in the project.

I still came around steemit some and encouraged others to use it if they needed a way to earn better in the crypto world. I had some really powerful accounts(basically I accidently vested in some early enough to get the huge %) which I sold off(some are still in use today). But, for me, it has never been about the money. Don't get me wrong money is good and all. But, if I am going to fully support and be involved in a project, it needs to represent my values. Steemit never did, it was centralized from the start. That is why I think the fork was necessary.

It is horrible the way Sun responded. I know the loss for some is huge. Many on the list I consider friends, others are acquaintances, and a few I do not know at all. But they all took a really big hit, and I am so sorry it happened. I think and hope the future rewards will outweigh what was lost.

There is a good write up of the situation here https://decrypt.co/38050/steem-steemit-tron-justin-sun-cryptocurrency-war. Most of you have probably read this already, and I realize I am kind of late to the table. I just wanted to make my stance clear because Hive is a project which aligns with my values.

Also, I wanted to say thanks to all of you fighting for the cause, even at the loss of huge monetary value <3.
