Hawaii residents can use Uphold to buy Bitcoin and Ethereum cryptos

in #hawaii7 years ago

Even though Hawaii residents have lost the use of CoinBase to purchase Bitcoin and Ethereum, there are alternatives if you look for them. I have found that Uphold.com will allow funds to be withdrawn from your internet bank account (in my case Bank of the Internet, BofI). I verified this by doing a deposit today. You just have to activate an account of Uphold and go thru the usual security procedures of verifying your identity. There are no affiliate codes or rewards so I do not profit from letting this information out. Just a way to purchase cryptocurrency without going to localbitcoins which I consider a higher cost and an unknown risk. Unfortunately, Uphold does not allow the use of debit/credit cards for funding from US citizens. I hope this changes in the future.

May i know what is the transaction like to exchange cash to say btc in hawaii? In taiwan a exchange like this is almost around 5%. I wish i am in US now.

I am not comfortable using any cash to buy BTC in Hawaii or in any country. You would have to know the person that you are buying the BTC from, otherwise you could be easily robbed. I have read that you can do a cash exchange using LocalBitcoins.com but that going rates are usually 10% or more than what is posted on most exchanges. I have also read that there have been people who were arrested for engaging in running an unlicensed currency exchange service by exchanging cash for BTC. So, I would be very cautious.

Found a way around it - make a new account w different email address
selecting Minor outlying US islands as state
you can still purchase on coinbase using a debit or credit card
Then transfer out of coinbase to a safer wallet

Nice to see other Hawaii peeps using bitcoin. Aloha!

what to do about "address" info?

You can also create a Western Union account which has its bank location on the mainland. You can use the debit card they provide in Coinbase.

That still works for Hawaii ppl? Just set up account as minor outlying island as state and the address how to handle that? My debit card is Hawaii first Hawaiian so are they still gonna denied? How about the verification process still gotta go through that sorry brah i asking plenty kine stuff

I go to www.hawaiibitcoin.org
A few different options all pretty easy and totally legitimate peer to peer platforms

Uphold is terrible! It took two weeks to get my BTC and then a very hefty transaction fee to move it from there to my wallet !! Never again
There were hidden fees on top of that too
Totally ridiculous fee because i didnt do a another trade within a few weeks they charged my bank account almost as much as the orinination fee- its not any better then p2p platforms worse because it takes weeks and they are very sly at tacking on extra charges - total crap!!

Solid blog. Good to see I'm not the only one that is thinking about this. The decision to buy a coin should be based on real analysis of the coin. I found that people keep buying coins without have any knowledge of them. This is considered high risk. Besides coinmarketcap.com there is: https://www.coincheckup.com They seem to give this complete indepth analysis of all cryptocoins. Go to: https://www.coincheckup.com/coins/Bitcoin#analysis To watch Bitcoin Report.

Uphold is scammy
They will put your btc in limbo and pending for weeks and then charge huge fees- and if you dont cancel your account they start charging huge "inactive account"fees after just a month - total set-up scam service

any good wallet to transfer coins from coin base...?
That can take ripple bitcoin litecoin and etherium

Exodus desktop wallet is super clean and easy to use. just remember to save your private keys!

Are there any other ways for people in Hawaii to purchase bitcoin and etherem? Bitcoin cash?

i’ve successfully used changelly.com and xcoins.io for BTC.

Is it Still working for Hawaii residents
