Whenever I need a quick "staycation" ... I always fly off on the short 30 minute flight from Hilo to Maui with Hawaiian Airlines to explore and have fun on another Hawaiian island.
The one thing I like about Maui is that its got lots of interesting small cafe and food places to eat.
Eating at the Best Vegan Food Place in Maui: A'a Roots in Napili, Maui
One of those places is A'a Roots located in Napili Plaza.
It's a premier place to eat exclusively creative VEGAN food. So for those who are vegan, you MUST check out A'a Roots, menu is created by the amazing and awesome Chef Veronica Hood.
In the first photo above, it's a Maui Teriyaki Tempeh Bowl with a Pink-Kale-Ada smoothie. All ingredients are local and fresh, and made to order. The portion sizes are quite big, so don't be too shocked by the higher prices at this amazing vegan place.
Eating at a Great French-Style Cafe: Belle Surf Cafe in Kihei, Maui
Another cool place to eat is the Belle Surf Cafe located close to the center of Kihei in the South side of Maui.
Here, they surf great coffee as well as creative crepes. Many of the crepes take on the traditional French style ... but some crepes also infuse some Asian and Hawaiian food qualities.
Seating is limited ... and breakfast time between 9AM to 12PM is quite busy, so be sure to be there early to get your order in.
It's interesting is that Maui has lots of French-style cafes and restaurants dotted across the island from Kihei to Upcountry in Kula, all the way in Paia. There's a small French expat community that does live in Maui, mostly in the north side of Maui along Paia to Haiku.
As for playing in Maui, the island is host to great outdoor activities from surfing/windsurfing/kiteboarding at Ho'okipa or Paia Bay.
Lots of waterfall hikes to do along the north side all the way to East side of Maui, along the Road to Hana.
As well, the South side and West sides of Maui have the best beaches in Hawaii overall, with nice sandy expansive beaches at Big Beach and Little Beach, as well as great coral reef areas from Makena to Honolua Bay.
Below, is me hiking a cliff side at a secluded and secret spot:
And the best thing about Maui, particularly if you are staying in the South or West side of Maui, are the AMAZING SUNSETS.
Aloha Hustler,
Nice to see that you took time to travel to Maui for a well-deserved mini-vacation.
The food and drink above description sounds soooo delicious.
The memories I have of Maui was the sunsets, walking along the La Haina where many art galleries are....back 15 years ago when we used travel there on art sales company trips.
Take care,
Very good pictures friend excellent work greetings
