I woke up in the morning with a lower back pain. It was severe that am afraid to go to sleep now. I have pains every once in a while especially if i didnt sit right on a computer chair/ table but the pain i felt today was different. What exactly went
Wrong? Could it be my mattress? But it is still firm and not falling yet
Well , for others who may feel same pain after sleeping, i did a little finding and here is what i found.
- SLEEPING POSITION-- Did you know that your sleeping position could make you feel pain after sleep? Just like me, sleeping on your stomach can cause lower back pain for you. I learnt that
it flattens the natural curvature of your lumbar spine and intensifies the pressure on your joints and vertebrae, straining your back muscles and thereby causing you to experience lower back pain when you wake up.
So it is advisable to sleep on your side. I wonder if I can really sleep like that and enjoy a refreshing sleep, hahaha. Alternative, I could still sleep on my stomach but then place my pillow underneath my stomach to reduce some of the pressures on my joints.
THE PILLOW USED--I found that using a specialist orthopedic pillow is better than those pillows which are made with feathers or soft clothes which tend to be so soft and some too thick. They end up pulling out the cervical spine out of alignment and cause strain on the neck and shoulder muscles and in turn, force the lower back into "an unnatural position".
MATTRESS-- I learnt also that as mattresses get older, they become less supportive. They no longer give your body the support it needs. How old is your mattress? How old is mine too? 5years? 6years? 10years? We mattresses should be changed at least every 6-7years.
There are many more reasons we experience back ache upon waking up. I also learnt that the way we rise up from bed also tell on our back. Do i need expertise on riding up from my bed? Well, rolling up to your side and pushing yourself up with the arm and then get to a standing position with the legs.
I hope to sleep right tonight and wake up with a better back with no pain
Love, @adoore-eu

Awkward position during sleep is a well recognised cause of LBP and neck pain. But it is self-limiting. Hope that you will be 100% fit again
