Self Help is No Help At All

Some time ago, I fell sick.

I am not a fan of hospitals and could even puke at the sight of one so I resorted to taking some simple pain relievers for the ache instead.

After a few days, I didn't get any better, so I said. "This should be malaria."

And went ahead to buy some malaria drugs to use.

After using it, I felt better for a day or two but became sick again.

At this point, I knew I had no other choice than to seek medical attention.

I immediately went for a check up and was told I had typhoid. 😱

To think I had been treating malaria all along.

I commenced typhoid treatment immediately and got better in no distant time.

I didn't fall sick again.

Many times, we are fond of taking self helps instead of seeking medical attention.

We'd rather prescribe drugs for ourselves than to be examined by a specialist.

This is so wrong.

According to medical terms coined by me, self help is no help at all as you may even end up worsening the situation

Seek medical attention rather than prescribe drugs for yourself.

Don't assume. Be sure.

Trust me my dear self help can be fatal. You see you ended up treating a wrong disease and with that the parasite is building resistance against the malaria drugs. There is a possibility now that the next time you have malaria which is not what i wish for, those drugs might not work again because the parasites have developed resistance to them due to your abuse of the drugs. That is why in health the importance of diagnosis is stressed. You must know what you are treating. Hope you learned your lesson and will not do that again.

I haven't fallen sick again since then and I don't hope to but this is really bad news.
