What the fork am i eating? #3 - Vegan(Vegetarian): day 21 of ? And 2000 Follower UPVOTE Special!

in #health7 years ago

Turning Vegan(Vegetarian). Why? How tough is it? Three weeks completed.

Today is the 21st day in a row without meat and fish in my diet. Before last week, i'd eat these food sources considering them to be a part of a healthy diet with little reflection on how the environment is faring, let alone the animal and it's life prior to being my food.

Reasons why I decided to move to plant-based food:

1. My health

2. The Environment (which affects my health)

3. The Animals (which have little direct affect on my health but have a direct affect on the environment... which affects my health)

In summary, it's all about me! And why not? I'm here for myself, to live learn and improve my life where i see fit. Now before you close the blog thinking 'selfish tw*t', consider:

So you see, being selfish and thinking for yourself, isn't necessarily a bad thing! :)

Progress report

Honestly, I've gone backwards a little. There's been 0 meat consumption and so i'm still very happy with that. Last week though, i ate a quiche (eggs and cheese), and at the weekend, half a cheese pizza. BOOOOOOOOOOO!

It's Cheese though! And the quiche was home prepared, how could I refuse!

I'm not going to beat myself up over this too much, maybe occasional dairy is where I will position my eating habits at. I'm certainly much more conscious about what's going into my mouth, and am not missing meat at all even if fellow Steemians are tempting me back over to the dark side.....

'Death by awesome food posts'

Yes, THANK YOU @Jaynie and @exyle for last nights meat sandwich!

Hey! That's cool. I've never tried a vegan diet, nor a vegeterian, but often think about reducing the amount of meat I eat. I do also feel very concerned about the enviroment and animals.
I sometimes like eating vegeterian dishes, and you can find good ones on err... Pinterest.
But well done man!

Hey!

Thanks for being my first(only) commentator! :D (I hope @exyle doesn't mind being in my blog, hopefully not!)

I do like the taste of meat, but you know, all those cattle need grass (forests get chopped), and they fart a lot too. Worse for the greenhouse gases than the worlds transport network apparently. This is my main reason i guess.

We are still getting used to it, as you have read - but i reckon i can continue without Meat (unless the Green Egg gets some fat steaks on the go! haha :) )

Thank you!

O man, I missed this. I'm sorry. Good job on turning Vegan. I did the challenge couple of years ago. I managed a week.... :)

ha ha thanks man! A week with the Green Egg sitting outside is pretty good going!

Yeah as above, i think it's the right thing to try and do... sadly, for someone who does like chicken and beef!

waaahahahahahaha!!!!! Damn that steak was good! lol - But just so it doesn't feel left out... let me just say...

"I love you too Broccoli"

hehehehe :)

Hey, I just followed you and this is the first post of yours I'm reading! :)
I'm glad you shared your story and progress. I've been thinking for a while to go vegetarian and then eventually vegan but I guess I always find excuses instead of just doing it!
As someone who's at the beginning of this journey, I think you're doing a great job! :)

Well thank you @nikolina!

I'm certainly trying, and for the most part it's going well. I think it's not so hard quitting the meat, and a worthwhile thing to do.

Time to check out your story... :)

Hello @abh12345, congrats on the achievement so far, both for reaching 2000 followers and keeping on with your diet!
I have quite a lot of friends also doing some great changes in their diet, that's amazing to see that the effect on their health is just great.
Keep rocking and wish you a lot more success ahead!
@progressivechef

Thank you very much!

I'm opting for the Vegetarian route for now, and may try without cheese and eggs again in future. It feels good to be eating with the planet in mind :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Wow! Amazing post! 2 thumbs up! Can you be my friend?

Cheeky monkey. What's for dinner, have you made it yet?

I've been vegan for 2 years now. Occassionally I will eat cheese if a friend has cooked for me (and forgotten I'm vegan) for example. But I think now generally being 100% isn't so important, especially as you could be a really unsustainable vegan eating out of season fruit and vegetables from the otherside of the planet :P I'm thinking of going back to eating fish maybe once a month for health reasons. I also consider a similar thing with very special local cheese. NYOM! P.S. yeast flakes are a pretty decent cheese topping alternative ;) Anyway, cool to read your journey, and best of luck!

Thanks for the tips dude, and cheers for dropping by!

I think that most of the data you mention above is manipulated and the fact of being vegan or vegetarian is not gonna change enterly your life, but a good balance between all kinds of food is the best option.

Brazil is the largest exporter of beef which is causing 80% of all deforestation in the Amazon. ... For Brazil, this means finding a way to control its deforestation without actively killing the industry that is providing lucrative profits.Jul 10, 2016

In point of having too many followers, i dont care that! They are dead maybe! Lol that ( follow me I ll follow you ) thing make all that shit useless,..

Exactly! That's why creating your own custom follower/interaction/whogivesmevotes list is a good plan ;)

Good on you! I'm vegetarian but try to avoid dairy with the intention of going vegan eventually. But cheese is definitely an issue! And mayo! Hopefully a convincing alternative will become available so I can make the full transition 😊

haha yeah it's all about the Cheese!!! I can do without mayo but Cheeeeeese, nooooo, must have Cheese!

Again...Rocksome BroStar Asher @abh12345 !!! I am eat mostly a plant-based diet as well and used to be a Holistic Nutritional Consultant who helped people reverse chronic degenerative disease with "Food as Medicine" and more. I also gave educational lectures on the whole Big Picture of why starting back like in 2005, and was the chef/consultant for one of Sedona's first raw crossover restaurants back in '05. Wooo Hooooooooo!!! Vegans/Veggies unite!

Excellent!

I've only recently made the switch to no meat, but have always included lots of veg and fruit. Learning about the negative effects on the environment was the clincher for me!
