Have you ever received a hot stone massage?? Nothing could feel better on a sore, tired body, right? Maybe you've never had the pleasure but you're totally interested. Well, we are all in luck because you don't have to pay an arm and a leg to get the healing benefits of hot stones! Everything you need may just already be in your home. Before I give you the list of easy ways to use hot stones, let me walk you through the preparation process. Let the healing begin:
You will need:
A crock pot
Smooth stones, of various sizes
A slotted spoon
Two hand towels
Meat thermometer
Water
Olive oil, or another oil you trust on skin
Optional essential oils
Optional massage partner
Optional small cloth bag
Here is my hot stone collection. The grey basalt ones are from a kit, the river ones are from my rock collection, and the little ones are from the Dollar Tree.
Put a towel on the bottom of the crock pot and lay the stones inside. Fill crock pot with water, at least a few inches above the top of the stones. Put the crock pot on its low setting, or if you can control the temperature, set it at 130°. Let them warm for a few hours, testing the temperature and adjusting it, by adding cooler water if necessary. When you go to get a stone out of the water, use the slotted spoon and set the stone on a towel to drip dry and so you can safely test its temperature.
Okay, here are the five easy ways you can use these hot stones at home:
1: You can hold them in your hands to warm you, metaphysically ground you and relax you. Hold them until they are cool, then switch them for fresh warm ones. Try putting them near cold feet too!
2: Do a hot stone oil massage with your partner.
Make a simple massage oil by pouring olive oil (or your favorite oil) in a bowl and add a few drops of essential oils as desired. And voila! Massage oil. Grease up your partner's skin and combine regular massage with stone massage. Remember to NEVER let a hot stone sit on bare skin. There should always be a sheet or towel as a barrior OR you can keep the rock moving along the skin. Move the rocks with the muscles and use relaxing circles to iron out knots. The rocks are wonderful for deep tissue work. Communicate with your partner as to what feels good and what doesn't.
3: Use the warm water as a diffuser and enjoy the relaxing aromatherapy in your house by adding a few drops of essential oils to the water in the crock pot!
4: Use warm rocks as meditation tools! 🔮
Hold them in your hands as you clear your mind or place one on your forehead as you pray out your worries. You can even line them up your chakras if it feels right! 🤹♀️
5: Give yourself an uplifting face massage! If you're scowling all the time like i am, your face is tight and needs a little heat therapy. Carefully massage your face with a small smooth stone, working out that tension and melting into Oneness. 😌
Bonus!
6: Drop the smooth stones into the cloth bag, let them heat up in the crock pot, then drape the bag over a pillowcase on the back of your neck after you sit down to relax after a long day.
I would encourage candles 🕯🕯and soft music 🎻 for all of the situations described to help set the healing mood and transform your own home into a healing oasis! 🏖
