I took a Leap of Faith with Steemit, and it didn't turn out so well, so I started fasting.
Today’s post will be much shorter as I had spent the majority of the day working on a new curation proposal which I just post on utopian.io for an implementation of curation which I believe would be massively impactful to Steemit! You can find it here :
Productivity While Fasting
Being self-employed, I have always struggled to be more productive and have days where I think to myself “I achieved what I set out to do today”. However I forever seemed to be behind the curve.
I’ve always though for the longest time, how awesome it would be if I were able to simply not spend time eating at all and just go about my day uninterrupted, and how much I could accomplish without the distraction of food. My missing link was, well, do it then!
Now that it has been 9 days since my last meal, I can truly attest, that it is about as good as I imagined it to be to not eat, as a matter of fact, it’s actually even a little better than that.
No More Time Wasted On Eating
It has never truly occurred to me, until now, truly how time consuming really eating is. You have to first think of what you want to have, you have to go acquire the food, you have to spend time eating.
Back when I used to work in an office, eating 3 meals a day, I would take time away from work, leave the office building, walk to where I wanted to acquire my food, wait in line, make my order, wait for my food then eat my food. This is before considering the time that I leave the office for coffee, to buy snacks and for smoke breaks.
This is all before the fact that I get sloppy after eating, just like everyone does. When do I actually work??
I did this every single day for so long without fully understanding how much time it is consuming. Now that I truly think about it, because, of course, that’s what everyone does!
Fasting Helps Your Brain Be More Goal Orientated and Productive
When you aren’t eating, your body is making sure you are extra motivated to go out there and hunt and gather and do what it takes to actually acquire food. As such, the mental acuity of focus, goal-orientedness and productivity are elevated. This is my personal experience and what I am experiencing right now.
Short of the initial adjustment period, in the first few days, day after day that I go deeper into this fast, I seem to be producing work at a rate which I was never producing at. This is something you may be able to tell if you simply look at my feed and see that in the last 3 days, I have doubled my output of posts on Steemit, which are often-times long posts which include actual quality, proper formatting, graphic design and in the case of this blog series, gifs.
The Goal-Orientedness Is Very Real
Everyone likes to feel like they are Goal-Orientated, but like myself, I have a lot of goals, which often times never come to fruition. What’s the point of having goals that you never find the time to reach? I face that problem so often in my life.
In the last few days, I’d say since day 5-6, I have a sense of urgency to get shit done more so than I think I have ever experienced in my life. There is a sense of necessity to achieve my daily goals before I allow myself to go to bed, with a Do-Or-Die mentality which I have to say, I am very glad to have.
Of course, it actually makes sense that this is the case. I have not eaten in 9 days and my body is making sure I do what it takes to reach my goals to acquire the next meal.
I said at the beginning of this post that I would keep today’s post short as it is pretty late and I did not think I would be able to really bring too much value today, yet here I am, about 700 words deep, with I’d say, decent content. If that’s not a testament to the productivity benefits, I don’t know what is.
No distractions from food, no food crashes, no desires for snacking, just sheer focus and goal-orientated productivity.
The longer I fast, the more it seems I have found something profound that I will keep as a practice for the rest of my life. Fasting is healing my body, shaping my body, and bringing my brain to a state I have craved all my life.
State of Being
Today it struck me once again, the fact that I have not eaten anything for this long a period of time. Yet if anything, I feel better than most regular days I’ve had in my life. No, I don’t feel euphoric, no I don’t feel like I’m ready to take the world by storm, but I can definitely say I am in a state of mind that I sincerely wish I could be every single day. If I were, I'm sure I would have achieved alot more with my life by now.
Mental State is where I am starting to get excited. I have always been using the linear measure of X/10 ratio to define how I am doing mentally, however I now see that that scale simply will not be enough to encompass the benefits I am experiencing. I feel consistent level of focus, goal-oriented productivity, a peak in creativity levels and a Zen-like state where I am less reactive yet completely cognizant and see things for what they are.
Things are getting more and more exciting in this regard and I am eager to see what more comes of this.
Hunger Pangs are still around and happen sporadically, at a notch higher than usual. It seems that my parasites are seriously feeling the pain right now and I am certain, soon enough will either leave or die. Once again, shoutout to @ponts who helped me see the hunger pangs for what they are.
Once I identify the hunger pangs as not hunger at all, and as the parasites screaming for food, I am feel much more resolve than helplessness in the matter, every time they scream I laugh at their pain.
In conclusion, it seems I am past the hump, and the noticeable benefits of fasting are starting to flourish, and for that I am grateful.
I am grateful in general to be on this journey to self-betterment as well as sharing my story to fellow steemians who have been following so closely every post! Shoutout to @celestal, @motoengineer, @ponts and @robbiebob who have been showing me much love which very very much appreciated.
That’s all for today! Till tomorrow,
God Speed Brethren.

What a fascinating journey you are on ansonoxy! I've water fasted for two weeks at the most. It was quite trippy but I can definitely relate to the feeling of not-quite-euphoria-but-better-than-normal state you refer to.
I wish you the best moving forward man. This kind of experience is so great for lighting a fire that will get you where you need to go ;-)
Would love to hear your thoughts about my latest video: How To NOT Feel Like S#*$ In the Morning [PART I]. I had a ton of fun making it ;-)
Hey there at @axios!
Thank you very much! It really is an amazing journey for me!
Yes! It does seem like this is a unanimous experience for peope who have done extended fasts! There is a special case which I read of a guy fasting for 53 days, of which he experienced a mental state which he described as close to having the "Limitless NZT Pill" which I can't say I don't desire.
I definitely agree, at this point, I am about 1/3 way through, and I can already tell that this fast will make a signifacant lasting effect on life and I foresee myself performing extended fast many times over.
I promise to give it a watch and get back to you on that ;)
I've follow you as well!
Cheers!
