Misophonia: Do you detest hearing someone chew?

in #health8 years ago

Very good greetings to all, it's me again, after so long without having published anything (about 2 months), lately I was with the university and had so little time to write something in decent conditions, although I have not stopped entering the site to read articles, anyway, I hope to be welcome again, there you have my post.

Today I am going to talk about misophonia, a disorder that affects a certain number of people, which causes irritability and annoyance when perceiving certain sounds. If for some reason you feel very uncomfortable when you hear someone eating, or the sound that causes the friction of certain materials, or even hearing someone cough, then it is quite probable that you suffer from misophonia, do not worry, it has been determined that it is not something that has a negative impact on daily life.

As I mentioned before the misophonia is a psychiatric disorder that produces intolerance to certain sounds, this is not so harmful for those who suffer from this disorder, although in some cases these people may become aggressive or present unreasonable behaviors, a product of anxiety generated by the continuous exposure of the sounds that are annoying for these people.

The misophonia "occurs" due to a failure of interpretation on the part of the brain, therefore, common sounds like listening to someone talk or chewing, can trigger this unpleasant feeling of despair.

It is assumed that strong and unexpected noises are interpreted by the brain as a danger signal, so we usually enter a state of alert, however, because the brain interprets badly common sounds, those who suffer from misophonia could have their mood seriously affected, and even, in some cases can affect completely the quality of life of the individual.

Symptoms

The most common symptoms are the feeling of anger, discomfort and panic, some people may get tachycardia and intense cold sweating. Sometimes, when reaching high levels of anxiety that individuals will try to avoid contact with other people and isolate to regain peace of mind. On the other hand, it is also very likely that the present person conducts very aggressively against the source of sound, against the people who are around him and evidently, the desire to move away as fast as he or she can.

Is there any relation between the misophony and hyperacusis or phonophobia?

The relationship that can be established between these is that all cause irritability to sound, people suffering from hyperacusis or misofophonia are easily irritable by certain sounds (usually common in our daily life), the difference is that the misofonía only produces Great discomfort and aggressive behavior, on the other hand, hyperacusis causes an individual to perceive the sounds at a higher volume, besides that can lead to nausea and migraines. On the other hand, people with phonophobia are disturbed when they hear extremely loud or very sudden sounds, in such a way that they provoke the person with great attacks of anxiety and exasperation.

Personally as far as I know, I do not suffer from phonophobia or any of the disorders mentioned above, but if there are certain sounds that make me feel horrible, with a lot of anxiety and impotence, for example, the sound caused when rubbing anything with a derivative of polyethylene, it is a sensation as if the head is going to explode you, In spite of it I am sure that I am not the only person who has experienced this type of sensations, so if somebody has presented something similar it could say it in the comments.

I say goodbye for now Steemit people, have a good day or night!
