Water is made up of atoms. An atom is the smallest particle of an element, like oxygen or hydrogen. Water molecules has 3 atoms; two of hydrogen and one of oxygen, hence why water is called H²O.
Our body uses water in all it's cells and tissues because it helps to regulate body temperature. 60% of the body in weight is made up of water, and 75% of the whole earth is filled with water. This statistic alone shows that water is extremely important!!
We All Need Water To Survive, But How Exactly Does It Help? Our body uses water during normal metabolic activities like sweating, breathing and even digestion. Ergo; it is important to rehydrate by drinking enough water and eating foods that contain water. In very hot climates .. (9jaaaa!) ..it becomes very easy to get dehydrated. Also, how physically active a person is can determine the amount of water that person needs.
Water Gets Rid Of Body Waste: Adequate water intake allows us to get rid if waste through perspiration, urination and defecation. Our kidneys and livers make use of water to flush out waste products and aids digestion by softening food; making it easier for food to pass through the normal channels.
Water Prevents Dehydration: Rigorous exercises like running, jogging, and even walking long distances (under this kind hot sun) can make us loose body fluids. Also, coming down with a high fever, vomiting, etc makes the body loose fluids and makes us dehydrated. Pregnant or breastfeeding women will consume more bodily fluids than the average person, so staying hydrated is a priority. It is recommended that we eat foods and fruits that contains lots of water; for example watermelons, vegetables, tomatoes, egg plant, potatoes and carrots, etcetera etcetera. (Did you know that broccoli is 91% water in weight?)
How Much Water Do You Need? There are no particular rules about the amount of water one should consume. Some people only drink water when they are thirsty; while others drink water before, during, and after meals. However, it is recommended that humans should drink about 8 glasses of water a day! To check your hydration level, look at your urine; if it's dark, you're probably dehydrated. But if it's clear, you're in good shape.
Water Aids In Digestion: This is common knowledge. We have all noticed that we belch after drinking water while eating. Digestion starts with saliva, which is water based. Proper digestion makes nutrients more accessible to the body and makes stools easy to pass.
Consume Water Instead Of Soft Drinks! Soft drinks don't reall quench your thirst, and certainly not our body's need for water. The level of phosphate in soft drinks leech vital minerals from the body. Soft drinks remove rust from cars and metal surfaces. Imagine what it's doing to your organs as well as the rest of your body!
I digress: Okay I really need to start taking my own advice, especially about the above said part. The amount of Coca Cola I consume in a week is scary to say the least! But I need the sugar fix! Anyone else addicted to Coke? (or any other soft drink) ... take my advice abeg!
To sum it all up, here are the tips you need:
- Drink about 8 glasses of water a day.
- Eat lots of food and fruits that contain water and are water based.
- STAY AWAY FROM
COKESOFT DRINKS! No matter how much it hurtsssss..😭 - Don't even look at Coke.
- Keep everything moderate. Don't do aseju (that is, don't overdo)
