Were soldiers in the Gulf War exposed to something which damaged their DNA?
This latest study provides some clear evidence that DNA damage has taken place. We know in war chemical weapons may be used. We also know depleted uranium may also have been used in the Iraq war. While it's hard to confirm exactly what weapons are being used in a war scenario it is this sort of evidence which helps investigators narrow down what may have happened to soldiers in the Gulf War.
"We need to be sure that our findings are robust," Falvo says. "For us, that means confirming the present results but also investigating what might be contributing to mitochondrial DNA damage or its lack of repair."
Before the Gulf War there was the agent orange situation. War veterans have been exposed to various toxins going back decades and in my opinion there should be a thorough and deep investigation into these results and also studies to show the American public whether being a soldier has negative health consequences. The idea of being a soldier and even of war is romantisized in history and in movies but there are high costs. The people willing to take on these costs are doing it for everyone else (they took these costs so that the costs weren't potentially distributed to many of us).

I had an ex who's Dad had serious PTSD. Like it would be BAD some days when I would come over and of course im trying to sleep with his daughter at the time haha so he was pretty intimidating but overall a great guy i became close with.
Getting to the point, PTSD is wayy more damaging than any toxins inhaled or ingested. He did have some serious psoriasis when he came back from his deployment which is linked to mtDNA that this article is focused on. Great article, i learned.
very true PTSD cause more damage than the weapons , if they dont get good care and counseling things go down hill from there, more veterans are committing suicide than ever cause of PTSD
I was using depleted uranium shells for the Bradley that we loaded. Are DNA can also get damaged by trauma. Constant stress can damage DNA.
Chemical weapons must be stopped and attended at the same time should not destroy the world by the use of malicious weapons
great post!!
Nice post
hi ! I m atik i m new here so plzzz Upvote and FOLLOW me @atikulislam
And i do the same
Thank you
Bradley gunner and A-10 pilot are prone
most weapons contain heavy metals and chemical, this could have some impact on the soldiers body not forgeting the post traumatic stress disorder that follows the wars, but more research need to be done for it to be conclusive
Is it Karma?
May be weather is not accepting them!
That was my view for quite some time. I served in Panama with Mike Company, 3d Battalion, 8th Marines for what would lead up to be Operation Just Cause. A Sergeant of Marines, just as scared as my men. They never knew it, at least I would never let my fear show.
I also served in the Gulf War as the driver for the 2d Marine Division Commanding General. I was not directly involved in hand to hand combat, but witness to the inhumanity that we humans can inflict upon one another.
I suffer from both maladies, Gulf War Syndrome and a severe anxiety disorder. I am no hero. I did what I thought was my duty. I received no physical injuries, though I did bring something back with me.
One can never understand survival guilt, battling ghosts at night, super vigilance, extreme mood swings, paranoia. Like one commenter said here, maybe it is karma. It could be.
I know I hate this. I have, on many an occasion, wanted to take my life. The older I get the worse it gets. I self medicate; alcohol, sex, weed. I found myself homeless for over 2 years in San Diego not knowing who I was. There are things I can not share here. It is too much. I am having difficulty writing this now.
Don't feel sorry for us, don't you dare. We do not want pity, that is the last thing we want. We are women and men who served our Nation, we are proud of that service. We had no politics, we served at our Nation's pleasure.
As you can see on SteemIt, many are still serving and contributing. Each other (fortiduine, camaraderie, band of brothers [and sisters]) and the entire SteemIt community at large. That is who we are, that is what we do.
I guess it is like President Trump said recently we knew what we were getting ourselves into...
Thanks for the post. Just trying to give a little insight from just one old Marine's perspective. Have a great week. Keep your posts coming, they are very on point.
