Many Women are becoming Homeless.

in #health7 years ago

The new face of homelessness is not what you would expect. Many are now women who have had a good education, typically a mother, who once had a career, and maybe even once owned a home. Women over 55 are the fastest growing group in our homeless communities, with millions predicted to experience housing problems in the coming decade.

Many middle aged women, find they are now single, with no savings for retirement, and no likelihood of regaining employment. Having had caring responsibilities, interrupted careers, and a marriage breakdown, the effects compound as they age. Even young single mothers, can find that it is increasingly difficult to rent an apartment. with agents worried about the ability to pay rent.

After separation or divorce it can be a very difficult time for women, as they may have no access to their ex partners savings, and limited or no child support. Financial settlements can take years to be resolved, many women consider they are not really homeless, rather temporarily affected by circumstances.

Good quality social housing needs to be a priority for the tidal waves of women, finding themselves without housing. Protection of women who flee domestic violence should also be a reason for increased social housing.

Low cost, affordable housing have long waiting list, sometimes up to 4 years or longer. In Asia, bamboo is used to build low cost houses for homeless people. Bamboo is really cheap.

There must be some other ways to provide homes like things that aren't being used anymore like train cars or airplanes.

true -lets get creative as a society

Do you have any ideas that would help solve this issue?

obviously we need more community housing - a society is only as rich as its poorest members

The Russians have found a way to make a 3d printed house for around $10,000. I hope that it's possible to cut through red tape and start providing affordable homes. Ridiculous how in this day and age there are still people allowed to be homeless

great to know the future can bring increased housing through reducing costs

Seems there's always a road block though. Just like green energy going mainstream.

I think it will still happen regardless!

thanks for dropping in with a comment - rock on

Hi @daydreams4rock,

I feel late to this discussion (steem blockchain rules fading topics after a week needs to be question...really), nevertheless, this is a serious topic that needs more visuals.

I hope you will repost a part 2 of this someday. Cheer and good work!
