Battling Illness With A Ketogenic Lifestyle

in #health7 years ago (edited)

The high-fat, low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet is becoming increasingly known for helping individuals who are keen to address their chronic inflammation issues. Many diseases today are believed to be rooted in chronic and prolonged inflammation in the body, so it's no surprise that a growing number of people would be seeking to make changes in their diet, in an effort to try and reduce that inflammation.

Researchers have suggested that there are a variety of foods out there that can help to fight inflammation in the body:

These are food items such as leafy greens, broccoli and other vegetables, nuts, seafood, and fruit such as oranges, blueberries, and strawberries. And if you're looking to decrease inflammation, researchers and health experts etc, have suggested that you should avoid things that might be making the inflammation worse, such as cereal, cookies, chips, pizza, burgers, fries, and other highly-processed food items, sugar candy and sodas, etc.

Millions of people today are suffering from digestive-related illnesses and I believe that this plays a big part in why we are seeing more interest growing for diets like the Paleo, Primal, and Keto diet, and other food trends. It's not just for people who are looking to lose weight, but it could also be people who are looking to reverse current symptoms to try and promote better overall health for themselves.

Researchers have also suggested that the keto diet might be so effective that it could possible one day be used to help treat those with neurological issues, to treat stroke, epilepsy, brain trauma, and more.

Researchers have been busy trying to look for ways in order to mimic the effects of the keto diet, in order to produce some product that might be able to be administered and provide the benefit to someone of the diet; without them having to actually be on it.

Individuals have been consuming a low-carb keto diet not only recently, but for thousands of years. And despite the many critics, it's a health regime that has the support of a number of doctors who allegedly not only stick to the diet themselves, but also recommend it to their patients and family.

In one recent case report, from the Harvard Medical School's McLean Hospital, a psychiatrist there has admitted that he witnessed the keto diet help better the standard of living for two patients there who allegedly saw a meaningful improvement with their schizophrenia and depression-related symptoms; it helped to stabilize their mood. Those results though have been criticized and there are many medical professionals out there today who would warn going on the diet at all, let alone going on it to try and fix or remedy some physical or mental illness.

However, if people are finding the results that they are searching for: weight loss, reduced inflammation/symptoms etc, a feeling of improvement, then we can expect that not only will they try to stick with this diet/lifestyle, but that they will also promote it to their friends, family, and others. It's likely that in the years to come then we could see this niche space grow significantly.

Thank you Kindly

I am on a keto-vegan diet. I was on the ketogenic diet for about 6 months. I wasn't ever overweight, but I felt heavy at 64kg... I am 5ft 6".

I suffered from bloating after food and just feeling tired and sluggish. I also had pain in my joints. However, on the keto diet I felt energised, very alert, the bloating disappeared, and the pain has eased considerably. I also dropped to 59kg and feel just right.

The only problem was that I did eat quite a bit of cheese and the red meat etc bumped my cholesterol up. Apparently it is inherited. I loved the keto diet, so I combined it and became a keto-vegan. Perfect! I feel really good now. I found that it was carbs that caused the bloat and the pain.

I don't feel restricted in any way. It isn't a difficult diet, and I don't miss sugar, cakes, biscuits etc at all. All my food is fresh and natural. You can't put a price on good health.

Doctors are mostly just intent on pushing medication down our throats. But they only mask the problem not deal with the root cause.

I thought ketogenic diet had to be meat and day, like paleolithic. Would love to find out more about keto-vegetariam 😊 Any good links you have about it?

Just noticed your comment about doctors, which I disagree with. Let me tell you about patients instead: all they want to have pills prescribed, if you start talking diet their eyes glaze over 😉

No. Ideally yes, it contains grass-fed beef, pork etc, but I felt sluggish eating pork cooked any which way.
I have elevated cholesterol, which is apparently inherited, and I was eating lots of high fat foods, especially cheeses. I love cheese. My cholesterol shot up. But I loved the rest of the diet, so I kept that. I eat very little to no carbs.
I eat vegetables, mainly raw, or slightly cooked, fruit, smoothies, veg juices, nuts . I also cut out sugar. I eat oily fish too.

So I took the best of each diet and combined them. Since then I have found a few others on Steemit using the same combination.

I guess I just must have come across a raft of doctors who routinely prescribe pills for everything. They tried to ply me with Nsaids and really strong and dangerous drugs. I didn't want to go down that route. I did extensive research on these drugs and found they totally exacerbate the condition making it worse. They erode cartilage, plus cause so much other damage. They were all so annoyed that I refused the drugs, but a few reluctantly had to agree. They wanted to try out experimental drugs..... I am not a Guinea pig.

The change of diet has changed everything. But each doctor bar one was displeased that I discontinued the drugs. Unfortunately I have found doctors here all too willing to hand out "magic pills" rather than investigate and treat the root cause.

Great post ! Full of awesome information to share on my @momskitchen blog with all my very diverse foodie followers ! Thanks @doitvoluntarily for sharing as well with all of us ! 👍💕👍💕👍

Thanks for sharing@doitvoluntarily, Our food intake contributes to our health, many people feel that maintaining our diet is too costly but there are some natural foods we can afford that is good to our health, mostly vegetables

I try to eat different foods, not only useful. I love chips, but also like salads and fruits. Everything should be in the right ratio.

Fantastic information that I really needed to see I needed more information for the diet I just started so I thank you very much 😊

This is very interesting information. I am thinking of introducing avocado to my meals. Thank you.

thanks for the post iv been reading into Ketogenic for awhile now.

Do you feel like many of these illnesses are due to heavy metals? i am suffering mercury poisoning currently, from my amalgam fillings. The main symptoms are neurological. I do wonder how many people out there are severely toxic.

The era of the smashed avocado ^.^ Great post! I just made a post about healthy exercise to go along with healthy eating! Have a look if you like :)

very useful info and i will give it a go. upvoted as i like to improve my health

Interesting information for people with inflammation problems. Seems like it might be kind difficult to measure the keto diet on schizophrenics unless they were hospitalized. Good read. 🐓🐓

goog post

hope fully well...your content must be a learner company.
because I got something from your content and it's can help me...

Nice post!

I got to do something about my Chinese food and Mexican food diet...

Heard a lot of good things about the keto diet! My main man Joe Rogan also hustling that!

It's a commitment to a lifestyle with eating choice, not just a cure all.
I'm not going to lie, it kind of bugs me a bit that scientists are allegedly looking for the benefits without doing the work.
That's the whole point of the diet - do the work and see the results.
That is how it is with everything... If the body is out of balance, what we consume can continue to further than imbalance or it can help promote the balance.
We need to quit trying to cheat. :P

Interesting either way.

good post, amazing

okk done upvote me

I think they have changed the saying to "an avocado a day keeps the doctor away.."

Apples give me acid reflux lol... j/k

It's interesting to note just how much diet can prevent a many number of health issues in certain ppl. Many ppl are also not aware of the various non life threatening food allergies they may have which yield symptoms.

Instead of also going straight for the prescribed drugs, some of which, fix one issue while inducing another, really taking a look at ones diet could end up being the most important & effective medicine of all.

For anyone going on a ketogenic diet you'll find that it's easier to shred fat and gain muscle.

Great and interesting post, I sometimes tend to eat all the wrong things, at least I love avocado's.

Good article. Being a diabetic, I have gone strongly to reducing carbs and being high in proteins. However, I am balancing my diet more and reducing the higher fat foods (tend to be options when you go no carbs).

I know I need to go more vegetables, fruits, and very lean protein and not just focus on protein.

Great Info....Have you tried Natures Keto Water Wonder That occurs after 3 days.....as well the only issue with the avocado is the High mucoid and phlegm forming content within the colon that traps disease and chemicals if you take say anything for medicine that has a poisonous manmade substance within it.....now it can hold these poisons even from birth ....suspended kinda in catatonic state within the body....like a mummification of said substance one could say......and it could even play into the manifestation in ones own living life years later as well in dreams ...some have even come back and said even in death these poisons manifest in images or imagery ...........at any given moment.....anyway ...indeed it is quite fascinating however the infinite light speed transmission within the fat of electricity within the body ......

Great Article
Thank you kindly

i love it thank u so much !!!!!

I firmly believe you can't go wrong with your diet if you eat a wide variety of foods in moderation. There's an old saying, 'A little of what you fancy does you good.' There have been so many 'food fads' - special diets or 'superfoods' - recommended over the past few decades, but none of them seem to last.
The main thing is to avoid junk and pre-prepared foods. See my blog on cooking from scratch: https://steemit.com/cooking/@vivdoyle/eaxr7-doing-things-differently-not-right-or-wrong-just-different

Any diet that doesn't rely on processed food is good for our health. Whether that includes or excludes meat or whole grains. Great and informative post as always ;)
