I heard a ridiculous story on the news this morning about an alternative to treating a possible acute stroke. The claim was that you should wait to take someone with a possible stroke to the hospital and instead prick all of their fingers and both earlobes with a needle and wait...FOR THEM TO DIE?!?!
PLEASE REALIZE that this is a DANGEROUSLY FALSE CLAIM!!! The MOST IMPORTANT thing to do if you think someone is having an acute stroke is to Call 911 and get them to the closest hospital with a stroke center ASAP. The treatment for a stroke is hospital-based and recovery is LARGELY dependant on the amount of time between symptom onset and hospital-based treatment. So basically, the sooner you get help your loved one (or anyone) who you think may be acutely suffering from stroke symptoms by calling 911 the more likely the stroke symptoms are to resolve. You can recognize stroke symptoms using the F.A.S.T. acronym.
If you still want to prick them AFTER the 911 call that's on you, but you'll only be pissing the patient off and making a mess. This is your FREE OF CHARGE TO SAVE MY PEOPLE.
