They have different names in different places. I know then as cape gooseberries. They are delicious - a bit sweet and a bit sour too. Eat them as fruit or in salads - excellent.
We call them Ground Cherries around here and I just got some in my CSA and I never know how to prepare them, this post just reminded me that they are down stairs sitting on my counter :) I googled this...I like the goat cheese salad idea. I should add, I've tried them just by themselves and wasn't a big fan of the taste, but I think mixed in a salad with goat cheese will be perfect.
