Olive oil is obtained from a small tree species called olives, it's a very popular nutriment in the Mediterranean Basin.It's used in the Mediterranean cuisine generally for cooking, frying and salad dressings because it adds an amazing bitter flavor.Olive oil is prepared by squashing whole olives, the process is done in special factories.It also used as a skin care ingredient since the pharaonic times and in cosmetics nowadays because it has cleansing, moisturizing and antibacterial properties.
Olive oil is stored in large quantities in different size jars for months because it has a very long longevity.
A balanced diet is composed of 55% carbs,15% proteins and 30% fats/oils recommended by OMS.The 30% of fats itself is composed of:
- 7% of saturated fatty acids found in milk products and meats.
- 8% of polyunsaturated fatty acids including Omega 3 and Omega 6 found in fish and nuts'oil
- 15% of Monounsaturated fatty acids found in olive oil.
Oleic acid is the most important monounsaturated fatty acid and can be found in large quantities in olive oil, these fats protect against cardiovascular diseases such as strokes and heart attacks by providing more membrane fluidity than saturated fats.
Therefore it's not a coincidence that the mediterranean diet is associated with less mortality rate from cardiovascular diseases than any other place in the world.I have known daily olive-oil consumers who lived more than 100 years,sure consuming olive oil don't guarantee longevity but it sure reduces risk factors.
In the blood,we have two types of lipoproteins,High-density lipoprotein(HDL) which is very healthy for the heart and the vascular system in general and Low-density lipoprotein(LDL) which is very bad for your health.In fact Olive oil increases HDL while reducing LDL,that's some great news! Thus it prevents at a certain level many forms of dyslipidemia ( increased fats in the blood ).
Moreover,many studies have shown that olive oil increases insulin-sensitivity in muscle and fat cells.This is good news for many people who suffer from Diabetes mellitus type 2 as it becomes more and more problematic due to the increasing consumption of sugar products.Most frequently,These people have in addition to their diabetes, high blood pressure increasing their risk factors even more,thus olive oil is a great nutriment for them.
The last point i want you to know is that olive oil also has anti-inflammatory effects and can reduce the occurrence of many autoimmune disease such as lupus and arthritis,it also increases the healing process and fight some forms of obesity.
A regular intake of olive oil is a great investment for your well-being ,one bottle is affordable and can save you a lot of money in the future.Furthermore you don't have to buy it regularly because it can last for months so maybe it's time to include this magic potion in your diet.
