Going Keto

For roughly the past month I have been on the Ketogenic Diet. The reason I started is because my 3 year old son has a form of childhood epilepsy and the Ketogenic Diet has a good chance of reducing the number of seizures he has. To make things easier and know what he is going through I decided to begin the diet with him. The Ketogenic diet is high in fat and low in carbs. We eat a lot of diary, nuts (lots of macadamia nuts), and meat products with a little bit of fruit and vegetables. His seizures have been up and down, (it takes about 3 months to really know how well it is working) but we are hopeful the periods of being seizure free will increase. I have lost about 20 pounds so far on the diet. The first few weeks are tough as your body adjusts to the diet. I had periodic bouts of hunger and my son also complained about being hungry. Once you are on the diet for a few weeks your hunger between meals decreases. Your stomach does shrink because fat calories are more dense than carbs, therefore you eat less in volume. It is kind of ironic that a high fat diet burns fat.

Recomendación; Ten cuidado con la dieta cetogénica, ya que hay disitintos episodios epilepticos. Pide la versión del neurologo o nutricionista, y si es recomendable para el niño, recuerda que no todos somos iguales ♥.

Recommendation; Be careful with the ketogenic diet, since there are several epileptic episodes. Ask for the neurologist's version and if it is recommended for the child, remember that we are not all the same. ♥
