A Healthy Lifestyle: Finding the rightest wrong

in #health8 years ago (edited)

In a world where going out with friends is accompanied with numerous unhealthy temptations--such as pastry and coffee shops, fast food, and bars-- it is difficult to make a somewhat healthy choice, or finding the rightest wrong. Nevertheless, this should not stop you from leaving the comfort of your home because of the fear of falling off track your balanced lifestyle; in the end, this is what balance is all about.

Having gluten, dairy, eggs, or meat is not poisonous, as long as you are mindful and have it in moderation. It is important to be conscious about the food you are about to ingest, including the nutrients it brings. Being mindful of food qualities allows you to control your portions more easily.

Basic tips:

  1. For coffee shops:

    • Do: order a latte or cappuccino with skim milk if dairy alternatives are not available
    • Don´t: add syrups
    • Do: sweeten with half a packet of brown sugar if honey is not available and you must sweeten
    • Don´t: use Splenda or any no calorie sweeteners (unless its Stevia)
    • Having a plain latte will allow you to distract yourself from getting a butter and sugar packed pastry.
  2. For restaurants with heavy dishes:

    • Do: opt for protein (fish, chicken, meat)
    • Don´t: order many starters and a heavy main plate
    • Do: order a salad with the dressing on the side to control the quantity
    • If you are craving dessert, choose a light starter as a main plate
    • If you want pasta or pizza, choose it to share with friends, and order a plate of seasonal vegetables or a salad for yourself
    • Order vegetables and salads first, it will fill you up and prevent you from overeating more junk!

Enjoy!
