Food and exercise, vital to living healthily

When it comes to maintaining a healthy diet, the same or more important than not exceeding meals is to ingest the appropriate amount of each type of nutrient. Both the so-called macronutrients, that is, carbohydrates, proteins and fats, as well as micronutrients (vitamins, minerals and antioxidants) and fiber.

There is also no doubt that a balanced diet must be accompanied by daily physical activity. This is so to the point that, walking for at least one hour daily, the chances of suffering numerous health problems are drastically reduced.

Benefits of walking for our body

Speaking with concrete figures, according to a study conducted by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Girona, the chances of developing colon cancer are minimized by twenty percent in people who walk more than an hour a day. Another good example is the one published by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, whose study on the appearance of brain tumors concludes that people who walk an hour each day have a forty percent less risk of suffering them. And, in addition to stopping the appearance of these and other serious diseases, this good habit contributes to control the levels of the commonly called "bad cholesterol", as well as to avoid the appearance of other conditions that can become chronic as diabetes or the hypertension.

Meditation, the other key to health

Another factor perhaps not as widespread (but not least) to maintain a healthy life is meditation. Besides reducing unpleasant anxiety and relieving depression or simply the stress accumulated by day to day, it has immediate effects on proper cardiovascular and cerebral activity and even on the proper functioning of the immune and digestive systems. And, of course, through its practice it is possible to eradicate recurrent lumbar and cervical discomforts that periodically assail us.

Therefore it can be affirmed without any doubt that meditation is a way to find health, to increase mental clarity and to achieve emotional calm. In addition, it is often mistakenly thought that it is an activity exclusively suitable for adults or, at least, that it does not have such important effects on a child's life. And, as we say, it is an incorrect idea since, precisely, meditation is able to help the little ones control their hostility, stress, increases their self-esteem and academic performance.
