My understanding is that it takes 2 weeks to get over the physical addiction of smoking cigarettes. However it takes much longer to truly get over the habit and the emotional reasons that caused you to continue to use it as a crutch.
Have you read Allen Carr's book "Easy Way to Stop Smoking" ? Its got some good stuff in there which could help make it easier.
