Today at @HealthcaReport we are going to talk about a subject that is a hot topic every time someone put it into the table, that is the action with the "M" word, YES, you are right, we are talking about:
MASTURBATION
"Masturbation releases dopamine into the brain, a sustance that
has proven to create addictive behaviors"
Athletes aren’t the only ones who avoid ejaculations for a “greater cause”. Many highly successful men of the past have also abstained in order to use the sexual energy as a fuel for other things, these guys include: Napoleon Bonaparte, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Oscar Wilde, William Shakespeare, Abraham Lincoln, and many more.
But today, we are not going to talk if this is pleasant or not, but about the health consequences of masturbating, being this supported by studies of prestigious institutions, we are going to desmitify some of the myths around this practice:
1-MASTURBATION IS NOT RISK FREE:
Besides many of us could think masturbation is risk free, there are some risks associated with it, and one of this important risks, not including the mental risks, are the physical. Masturbation can cause a condition that is called "penile fracture", Medscape Dictionario relates to penile Fracture as the following:
"Penile fracture is the traumatic rupture of the corpus cavernosum. Traumatic rupture of the penis is relatively uncommon and is considered a urologic emergency.
Sudden blunt trauma or abrupt lateral bending of the penis in an erect state can break the markedly thinned and stiff tunica albuginea, resulting in a fractured penis. One or both corpora may be involved, and concomitant injury to the penile urethra may occur. Urethral trauma is more common when both corpora cavernosa are injured."(3)
2-MASTURBATION CAN BE JUST A WAY TO AVOID SOLVING OTHER PROBLEMS:
Many time people use masturbation whenn they are alone or feel lonely, this feeling of loneliness can take the person into depression, which in turn can turn again into masturbation. There is a real problem when this happens because this person is not acting against the real cause of the problem, and just covering with other action that can produce short term satisfaction.
After the act finishes, the problem is still there. As Ian Kerner, a licensed psychotherapist and sex counselor, told to Fox News:
“When people get depressed, they may get lonely and tend to masturbate,” he said. “If they’re having anxiety, the problem occurs when the only way you know how to calm yourself is with masturbation … in those cases, porn is the symptom, not the problem.”(4)
3-MASTURBATION CAN DECREASE TESTOSTERONE LEVELS:
A Study showed in Medline, with 10 males that followed abstinece for three weeks showed significantly increase in the testosterone levels of this males after the period, for this reason, continues ejaculation thought masturbation can decrease tertosterone levels, which is known as one of the most important hormones in males, preventing them from hair loss and other conditions related to low tetosterone levels.
