The Best Apples for Anti-Aging?

in #health6 years ago

Apples are delicious and a fall fruit favorite, but did you know they are also amazing for your skin and hair?!

All apples are incredibly nutritious, but there are 3 that stick out from the crowd. The Red delicious, Northern Spy and Ida Red all rank higher than their counterparts in potent disease fighting antioxidants(source tagged below). Antioxidants provide benefits such as: anti-aging, supporting healthy vision, supporting kidney function, improving reproductive function, supporting the immune system, improving the digestive system, improving respiratory system, enhancing the nervous system and improving the quality of sleep. The benefits of antioxidants in regards to anti-aging have to deal with it's ability to inhibit free radical production, which protects cells from damage.

Apples of all kinds are also an "astringent" food, meaning they pull on your lymphatic system and help the body move acids produced from the daily onslaught of metabolic waste that's produced by your body. Astringent foods are important to help with anti-aging, as they help pull the acids that would have wreaked havoc on your skin had they not been able to filter out of the body properly.

Benefits of apples on anti-aging don't stop at antioxidants, they also contain high amounts of vitamin C. The Red Delicious, Ida Red and Northern Spy aren't the only ones who contain high doses of Vitamin C, all apples contain a beneficial dose of beauty vitamin. Vitamin C is essential to growing and maintaining healthy hair, it helps build collagen which is important for hair growth. Vitamin C helps the body to absorb iron which helps keep the hair strong. Skin also benefits from vitamin C in apples, as it strengthens blood vessels and brightens the skin!

An apple a day does more than "keep the doctor away" :)
