Benefits of Fresh Coconut Water (no sugar added)

I started drinking fresh coconut juice during the last month of carrying Jansen in my womb back in the year of 2014. Before that, I wasn't a lover of it at all. My mum ordered me to drink coconut juice everyday towards the end of pregnancy with the belief that it would smoothen the delivery as well as making the baby look fresh and clean when he or she is out. Later on, coconuts became a hype in the health world, everyone was talking on the goodness of coconut, be it its juice, or flesh, or oil, and even its milk. Therefore, I was lucky enough to be in the trend. For this blog, I will only touch on its juice, the coconut water, as I drink it often. Additionally, you can read up more online, but here, I will just pen down what I know in my layman term from my own learning in life. Let's dive in.

1. Refreshing and Rehydrates the Body
With its sweet and slightly nutty taste, you feel refreshed after drinking it especially during hot weather. Having high amount of electrolytes, I was told by my pediatrician that it can be used on my children in the case of dehydration due to diarrhea, vomiting or excessive sweating. Having said this, coconut juice is definitely a good-to-go for athletes too if they do not prefer high-sugar-content sport drink. The glucose in the juice is a form of carbohydrates that help to elevate energy level.

2. Stomach-friendly
Unlike coconut milk, coconut water is easy on the stomach. You can drink 2-3 cups per day without feeling bloated. Therefore, in addition to being a rehydration agent, nurses at hospital recommended me before to use its juice to soothe indigestion, tummy upset, acid reflux or other minor stomach problem. Perfect for little Jansen who has reflux, but it is advised to drink it at room temperature.

3. Reduce heatiness
Due to it cooling properties, drinking coconut juice helps to reduce heatiness in the body. I am a person prone to ulcers, and I realise drinking coconut juice tackles the ulcers faster than just drinking plain water. To some degree, it soothe minor headache too. This may differ from each person because each's body has different mechanism. Try it and you will find out more. But I am pretty sure by drinking it, the refreshing feeling will reduce some bouts of hangover. 😉

4. Anti-aging and anti-oxidant
While drinking coconut water will not magically make you look younger, its composition of vitamin C, calcium, potassium and magnesium aids in maintaining a healthy skin. A well-hydrated skin usually looks glowing and more youthful. Vitamin C is needed to form collagen which supports firmness and elasticity of the skin. If you are also controlling your glucose intake, you may opt for coconut juice instead of other fruit juices. Coconut water also contains other minerals, essential vitamins and antioxidant which boost our immunity system.

5. Good for heart
Since it is cholesterol-free and fat-free, coconut juice is good for heart. It lowers down the bad cholesterol and increases the good cholesterol, hence reducing the risk of heart disease. In addition to this, its potassium content helps to lower blood pressure by balancing out excess sodium. Lower blood pressure means better heart's health

I usually buy my coconut juice from this food-truck stall. Have a look!

This food truck no longer serves its purpose as truck as it had long gone its function in terms of engine and outlook. Now it is a stationed spot for selling fresh sweet coconut water or some call it coconut juice. I am entering this food truck into @photocontests by @juliank under the category vehicle photography. Hope it is still purposeful and old-junkie enough to join the contest and wish him all the best in winning.

Son was buying coconut juice.

While coconut water has its share of benefits, never overdo it. Drink in moderation and also eat a balanced meal for greater health. Plus ample amount of water daily. Have a great week ahead Steemians!

@iamjadeline, that's a very detailed sharing, and I do agree with all the benefits mentioned. My wife did consumed coconut water during her pregnancy too, and of course the two littles nowadays especially hot weather.

Hi @jacktan. So coincident my two sons love it too, like you said, our hot weather. Thank you for dropping by. 😊

@iamjadeline, it's a community to spread positivity and love, and I find it is like a treasure to exchange useful parenting tips.

Hope Jansen is getting well by now. Oh yeah, and congrats on the contest winning.

Oh yes it definitely is useful. We exchange tips and we become wiser.

Thank you for greetings! ☺

I love C-O-C-O-N-U-T too! 🌴

Me likey too! Soooòoo nice to drink! Especially cold ones. but not for the children. they drink room temperature ones.

Time to stock up on some coconut water here in the Palencia residence haha!

I bet you should. 😉✌ Greetings to the Palencias 😎

A coconut a day keeps the doctor away! That's how we live when we're traveling in Asia!

That is a smart move! Hope you do have a fun time traveling in Asia. 😊

Man, I've always loved coconut water and had no idea it was so good for you too. Thanks.

Oh yes it is sooooo good to me. Thank you for dropping by @qberry. Sorry for my late reply. Juggling things around the house after son's hospital discharge.

Love Love Coconut water! So refreshing. Didn't know that there were so many benefits. Guess we got to say thanks to nature. =)

Yes nature is so good to us. i hope they stay long and healthy. And this only humankind can help. Thank you for dropping by @lalilands. Sorry for late reply. Was busy at home after son's hospital's discharge.

I love coconut water - well the benefits of it, but I just can't handle the taste of it on it's own. I have figured out a way to just add it to my smoothies, that way I get the benefits, and not the taste :-)
GREAT post!

Coconut smoothies are awesome too. Have you tried coconut ice-cream? simply delectable.

Coconut pair with Durian is the perfect combo of all 🤤.

recently i tried coconut milk shake at melaka , loving it too!

Oh yes i tried once too. At the side of the road outside a restaurant. Not sure is it the same one as yours but really nice.

Another benefit of coconut - you can cut the shell in half, put it on your kid's head and then give them a haircut!

And then they will have coconut head. Aha!

I've been a fan of coconut water for about the same length of time. It's extremely refreshing, and for me the taste is great. Not cheap, but worth it. Maybe if I lived on a tropical island it would be better :)

It is not cheap at my place too but still affordable for many. High-5 to you as we are fan of coconut water. 😁

I am drinking this often now. When I had my first some people told me will help keep jaundice away. Haha not true in my case but it's really refreshing especially in our weather. By the way, I just found out recently that it's best to drink in the morning before noon. Not sure of the logic behind but I still prefer drinking in the afternoon when it's super hot. Evening it's definitely a no-no cos it will be too cooling.

Why best to drink in the morning before noon? any specific reason? But yes i also often drink in the afternoon. Even sometimes at night I also drink. 😛

No idea! Maybe i ask my dad again next time.

I think i know wht now! Just came across an article saying that electrolytes and nutrients are better absorbed by our body in the morning, maybe that’s why morning is the best time to drink

I had a bad tummy the other day, it was embarrassing cos I was running toilet at my student's house. Suddenly I asked him if he has coconut drink and after I drank one cup, my diarrhea stopped and my tummy settled almost immediately. Speaking of the power of coconut juice! :)

So good that he had coconut drink at that time to soothe your tummy upset. It really did wonder right? I am glad Jansen loves coconut drink. Has Levi tried before?

Nope he hasn't tried. Haha. But he sipped a bit once when he had fever.

Coconut water does wonders for the body. When my son was an infant he had a severe form of eczema which lead to a lactose intolerance for a few months. At that time we were in Asia and the pediatrician recommended replacing the formula with coconut water. It seemed odd and I raised an eyebrow, but it helped my son. He was right.

Same as what my pediatrician recommended too. I hope it helps as many children as possible considering they are prone to tummy-related challenge. Thank you for dropping by @lymepoet.

I knew coconut water was good for you but I didn't realize all of these benefits. I will look for a source to give this a try. Thank you for a great read.

You can try as it refreshes you. 😊 Thank you @qberryfarms for dropping by.

I can have coconut all day long! The only down part was female can't have too much of coconut water especially during menstrual, or else, it's going to be a disaster. That's at least what my grandma used to tell me.
