RE: Can Your Job Be Replaced By a Robot? (And a Special Thank You Video, From me to All of You)

in #health8 years ago

First of all. Awesome post. I like your work. This is a hot topic. A difficult debate. I know on which side I stand. And yet I look with compassion across the line. Now, does the other side see with compassion? Can the other side even know what compassion is? Even if a robot was programmed to act like it had feelings, it would be a program, and it would need human to eventually turn it on and off. Our teachers at the Actors Gang, Tim Robbins and Cynthia Ettinger, once had a student bring up how robots can do everything. But will they make the art? Will they comfort the confused? Will they replace the family? They continue to make machines that do machine like work. But will always need a human in case things break down. And one could say, "but they'll make another machine that fixes the broken machines." And what machine will fix that machine? For if a machine is capable of life, it is capable of death. Everything begins and ends.
.
Another thing to consider is this fact: 1 in 100 Americans is in prison. That is free labor. Free labor that could be replaced by the machines. But even if they could invent it, what would those who are financially successful from these privatized prisons do to stop it. We've seen what fossil fuel companies are capable of doing in Washington. Even if we have the robot technology, There are humans still in DC and in the City Halls. Can a robot know right from wrong and allocate funds for schools and roads. Would the robot even care?
.
I appreciate this healthy debate. I stand on the side of the living. Let the robots come. They are fun for some. But nature and the arts will always welcome and remind us of our humanity.

Thanks @jacobts thanks for posting all the great info. I agree with you on a lot of the points I am also on the side of the living. But machines will have a role to play in the future, and the do now and you are right they can be fun! Thanks again :)
