Hello everyone! this is one of my favorite topics and enjoy having discussions on it with my friends and colleagues a lot of times. Marijuana is the most commonly used illegal drug in the world. Millions of people consume it in one form or the other every year. Many studies have found out that marijuana is no more dangerous and in some cases less dangerous than many other things that we put in our bodies. Here are a few reasons for which I feel Marijuana should be legalised...

Addiction to marijuana is very rare
Studies show that only 9 percent of people who use marijuana end up being clinically dependent on it. In fact, alcohol and tobacco are much more addictive than marijuana with a rate of 32 percent.

Marijuana has medical benefits
Studies have shown that it may prevent spreading of cancer in other body parts. It treats glaucoma, reduces anxiety. Ancient Indian texts (Atharva Veda) call it one of the five most sacred plants on earth. They call it a source of happiness, joy- giver and a liberator. It slows the progress of Alzheimer’s disease and improves metabolism…the list is endless.

Legalizing it would add to a nation’s revenue
There is a huge opportunity for a government to earn huge amounts of revenue by taxing and legalizing it by enforcing appropriate age restrictions and consumption limits. Legalization would also ensure a supply of good quality marijuana to the users since the government would regulate the production and sale of the drug.

Marijuana’s use is never fatal
You can never die because of smoking a joint or two unless you smoke like thousands of joints in half an hour. That is I guess impossible unless you are superhuman. I bet you would never hear or read about someone dying of marijuana but same can’t be said for alcohol or tobacco.

Legalizing it would create more jobs
Marijuana industry can create thousands of jobs, from farming to processing and manufacturing sectors and reduce unemployment rates since the demand is so high! In fact, it is already legal in more than 40 countries and I’m sure their gross happiness index would be quite high...

Pharmaceutical companies use the same marijuana to make pain killers and various other kinds of medicines and sell them to you at high prices. So basically legalizing weed would hit their businesses hard and therefore I think that all the negative talks that we hear about marijuana through various media is a propaganda run by pharmaceutical, tobacco and liquor companies and they pay thousands of dollars to various NGOs to create a negative perception about marijuana amongst people.jimi-hendrix-2265370_640.jpg
I would be happy to know if you have more information to add to what I have written or have diverging thoughts on this subject…

hahaha yea man!

All of these are great arguments.

Still the most important principle is that the use of any drug is a victimless crime.

A crime with no victim should not be a crime.

Upvoted and followed.
