Bromine - an insidious, hidden poison in our food and environments

in about 2008 I was directed to investigate a 'holistic health' doctor by the name of Dr David Brownstein, who has done extensive research in his general practise on the subject of Iodine and the effects of toxic halides present in our environments and food supplies. This includes fluoridated water, as well as bromate bleaches in wheat flour.

I almost forgot to drop this link in here because this was what gave so much more credence to what Brownstein says: http://www.gulflink.osd.mil/library/randrep/pb_paper/mr1018.2.chap10.html

Army doctors studying the soldiers who returned from the First Gulf War had all kinds of seemingly unrelated psychiatric disorders. As you can read in the article above, it turns out that the disruptive effect of Bromine on brain chemistry is exactly this - you could struggle for years with a psych disorder, with no drugs helping at all, and the doctor would have to suspect it for there to be any way to get a remedy.

The prescribed treatment they recommend is only partial, also, although important. One of the key things to note is that it was due to this that at least some doctors realised that the rate of elimination of bromine from the body might be slower than previously thought. I also would point out that poly cyclic bromide fire retardants are also probably better at crossing lipid membranes than the bromide.

I then, albeit without any help from a doctor to do urinalysis to determine what was coming out of my body from taking Lugol's Iodine, by starting slowly and carefully and more than doubling my salt intake (unrefined sea salt). Within 3 months I was adjusted to this and I could take about 5 drops of 15% (standard full strength) lugol's iodine (it is much the same as tincture but with water instead).

I had all kinds of problems with daytime sleepiness, unstable mood, drug addiction (alcohol, cannabis, cigarettes, caffeine), and the effect after 3 months was that the worst of these problems was gone. The problems have resumed, after nearly 4 years not being able to continue to maintain supplementation, and I think this is needed because I may be more than normally susceptible to absorbing toxic halides from my environment.

In the first few days, I discovered that within half an hour after taking the iodine, I would get sleepy and felt this niggling anxiety and jitteriness. Reading from Brownstein, I surmised that this must have been the effects of toxic halides dislodged from their place hidden in organs in my body, and to combat this, the dose was lowered, and my salt intake was doubled.

Saline drips are the standard method for treating acute halide toxicity, and the way it works is that it forces the kidneys to increase the elimination of electrolytes in the blood.

Fluoride was the cause of the anxious, dirty feeling, and the bromide, obviously was sedative.

I revisited this reaction today, after, as previously I have posted about mixing up a large stash of lugol's iodine thanks to how easy it is for me to get the necessary chemicals over the counter here in Bulgaria, and I took 1 drop without any food, and without raising my salt intake.

I have in fact been avoiding doing this because the stupid himalayan salt I have has a terrible grinder and it simply is difficult to get enough out of it without a lot of effort and pain on my hands from the friction trying to operate the grinder. Not only that, it has become clear to me that Himalayan salt does not have the same benefit as french/spanish/portuguese unrefined sea salt from the atlantic coast, and I know if I travel into town there is a supermarket where I can get such salt, produced in Garand, off the coast of France.

Within half an hour, I was sleepy, and so I laid down, and a couple of hours later woke up. I was pleased that at least that nervous feeling was not part of the effect this time. The Netherlands banned fluoridation of water supply in the 70s, which is probably where the majority of the water I have been consuming in the last 3 years came from, since being released from prison in Bulgaria.

I have been trying to correct my sleep cycle this last week, and I didn't even consider that the stimulation of the release of bromide into my blood by iodine would be helpful. Tonight, I will have no problems going to sleep before 10pm, I need to do this because I am super sensitive to light, and almost every day I wake at 30 minutes before dawn, as the light in the sky changes.

Lugol's iodine was a revolution in my life, after trying out so many diets and supplements and psychotropic drugs, it actually worked.

But I just need to preface this with a warning:

Do not just take doses of iodine over about 2mg per day without medical supervision and increased, unrefined salt.

The salt issue is a big one also because I have in the last year, started develop serious hypertension. The Himalayan salt triggers it, but I don't remember the atlantic sea salt doing this, so I must get the proper salt tomorrow, and consider also buying a bulk quantity to go with the iodine.

If they set off nukes near you, or a reactor blows up, you MUST have iodide available, or you can die very quickly from Iodine 131, produced in the nuclear fission reaction. This was first discovered after Chernobyl, and saved many lives. But with the toxic halides around, you also want to have a good stock of unrefined sea salt for those around you who have not been supplementing it to clear out the toxic halides, because it could, just by the potentially massive release of fluoride and bromide in a person with decades of absorbed, accumulated toxic halides, and these go straight to your thyroid and do the same thing, more or less, as the iodine 131, though it takes a lot more to do this.

I will be continuing to treat myself with this supplement again, because I know that previously it had massive benefits especially to my neurochemistry. Now that I know more about circadian clocks and the endocrine system, which depends on them, this, plus earthing and the Epi Paleo diet from Dr Kruse, I am very hopeful that this is the total remedy I need to get myself into a position where I might actually survive the next 10 years, because my health is getting serious, and I am pretty sure I am not far from developing heart disease.

Also, I have just realised, while thinking about this, that it was absolutely necessary for me to come back to Bulgaria right now, because this is the only country in the world where I can just buy iodine crystal to make Lugol's (I have 2L made up), and to get Magnesium Sulphate at a reasonable price. The 2L of lugol's cost me about 40 euros to make. Most online sources charge at least €15 for a single 100ml bottle. At this price my 2L supply would have cost me 150 euros.

This accessibility of laboratory chemicals is probably one of the other things I love about this country. I used to think it was cool because I wanted to cook myself meth, I used to think that if I just had a supply of pure clean meth, that I could help myself get into working. But this is not the case at all. This health stuff is what I need. I will be acquiring a supply of 1% Semax also, from my next 77 steem power down payout. This should help massively accelerate the repair of my brain, which I am sure is chemically damaged, since I was small.

Sort:

It sounds complicated.

Biology is a complex subject, and having treatment resistant health problems for most of my life, I have been very motivated to apply my intelligence to learning about it. If you have health problems also, you will benefit a lot from doing research. The doctors don't always keep up to date, and it's only guys like Brownstein and Kruse that are doing ongoing research as part of their practise. Like Kruse says, good doctors are a dime a dozen, but great doctors are extremely rare. Why aspire to mediocrity?

I have studied a lot as well, although I don't have any major health issues

I can understand that, and I am fascinated by your ideas and how you apply your research. Fortunately I and my family don't have any very serious health problems and I try to stay away from doctors as much as possible. In most cases I am able to solve the problem myself. I do have genetic hypertension though, which is quite bad.

Does this mean you can start cashing in on selling competitively priced L0k1's Solution? ;)

If you want me to make some up and send it to you, I would be most happy to, for you, my official 'Old School Buddy' and (cough) BFF. For cost. Just let me know :) To save on shipping I could place the ingredients dry into a 2L amber glass bottle, empty, and a label on the side with instructions. And a marker for the 2L mark. Just add (distilled) water!

Just curious; why were you investigating Dr. Brownstein? And at who's request?

no, i was pointed to him by a fellow neuro-psychiatry researcher. He was a 19 year old guy from Oxford in the UK, we met on a psychedelic IRC chatroom back in 2005. Sadly, this guy never got any relief from his problems, the last thing I heard about him was he was found dead from a fall off a multi story carpark, and nobody knows whether he committed suicide, or if he was pushed, because what we knew about him was that either was possible due to the druggy circles he was in (dubstep warehouse parties and amphetamine kids) as well as his serious mood instability problems. Poor guy. I can never forget him because it was his research that led to my own health improving.

Thank you for the quality reply. I happen to believe in the iodine solutions indicated in Dr. Brownstein's website. Have been following him for years. Hope you have success in healing your body and mind. I have been following and will continue to send good thoughts your way.

Since I am preaching to the choir here, I just want to admonish you to look into Dr Jack Kruse also. He brings quantum physics and informatics into play in understanding the functions of the endocrine system on a deeper level than Brownstein, and everything he says is also consistent with Brownstein's findings (both magnesium and iodine are also said by him to be critical nutrients)

I have saved Dr. Kruse's website and will delve into it soon. Thanks for the reminder.

Followed you nice article hop u follow back and upvote my comment

very true. I have read extensively on it. its naturally in sea water so sea foods have it in them, but what the biggest problem is when food company make it as an additive to foods like breads

Yes, there is a small amount of bromine in sea water, this is where it is from. In fact, all that bromate bleach and fire retardant made from bromine, is made from sea water, they evaporate the salt in a way that allows them to isolate the sodium chloride from the trace minerals, and this is where the main industrial source of bromine comes from. So obviously the body needs a small amount of it. But the majority of the human dietary intake that comes from the sea, especially sea vegetables, concentrates iodine, not bromine.

great info. thanks!
