Fasting is one of the easiest ways to cleanse the body of harmful and even deadly toxins. However many people feel they can't fast, either because their busy schedule won't allow it or that is too much of a lifestyle change to be done casually. Regardless of the hesitation towards fasting, there is a solution in a simple 24-hour juice and herbal detoxification. It can be used as a simple “spring cleaning” of the body, or to jump start a healing program. Although it is quick, it is often enough to make a significant difference in one's immediate health.
To start the 24-hour cleanse, start with a leafy green salad the night before. The fiber of the greens will give your bowels a good sweeping. That same night, dry brush your skin before bed in order to open your pores for the body's natural night time cleaning. The following day will consist of a diet of fresh juices, pure water, and a long walk.
Upon waking up: Drink an 8-oz glass of water with 2 squeezed lemons and 1TB of maple syrup
Later in the morning: Drink a glass of cranberry juice from concentrate
For Lunch: Drink a glass of apple juice. Optional: add 1 TB of superfood blend. Moringa is a great superfood, but a mix like the following works just as well:
Rice Protein, Barley Grass and Sprouts, Oat and Quinoa Sprouts, Alfalfa Leaf and Sprouts, Apple Pectin, Bee Pollen, Acerola Cherry, Siberian Ginseng, Spirulina, Sarsaparilla, Dandelion, Dulse, Licorice Root, Chlorella, and Guto Kola
Afternoon: Drink a cup of tea with food-source vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. An example of a tea like this contains the following:
Red Clover, Hawthorn, Nettles, Alfalfa, Horsetail, Lemongrass, White Sage, Milk Thistle, Echinacea Root, Gotu Kola, Pau d'Arco, Blue Malva, and Yerba Santa
Dinner: Drink a glass of papaya/pineapple juice. Alternatively, you can drink another glass of apple juice with 1 TB of superfood blend.
Before bed: Drink a cup of mint tea. An example of a good, calming tea is the following:
Cardamom, Cloves, Cinnamon, Fennel Seed, Peppercorns, Ginger Root
Alternatively, have 1 bowl MISO soup.
After the day of fasting, it is important to start with juice or fresh fruits and yogurt. Breaking a fast with solid foods can cause digestive issues. Additionally, the next days diet should primarily consist of raw and low-fat foods. Taking a seaweed or mineral bath the morning after a fast is a great idea to enhance the body's purification. Getting a full eight hours of sleep is equally important to assist the body during and after the fast.
