While breastfeeding, it is believed that mammary gland receptors from a mother's breast detects bacteria and viruses from her baby's saliva and if there is something amiss ( the baby is sick or fighting off an infect), her will actually change the milk's immunological composition, tailoring it to her baby's particular pathogen by producing customized antibodies.
Here is a picture of the mother's milk being altered for her baby who is sick and then changing as her baby got better.
Breastfeeding is the best thing you can do for your little one. Period.
