RE: The Spiritual Effects Of Alcohol

in #health6 years ago

You certainly raise an interesting topic here and I agree with much of what you say, but nothing is ever black and white. I rarely drink myself, I haven't since my first pregnancy, but I'm am introvert and socially awkward and alcohol used to make it easier for me to relax. I don't enjoy the taste of most alcohol and these days I probably wouldn't like the additives in many the drinks I used to enjoy. I know people who've quit drinking because they don't like what they become, so I've seen those demons taking over. I've seen those who are fine sober, but monsters after drinking. Personally, I don't believe that drinking is a good idea and is a waste of money.

However, not everyone becomes a monster when they drink. My husband and eldest are possibly nicer and easier going when they drink. So I wouldn't generalise and say it brings out the worst in everyone.

Is it pushed on us by government or do we do this all ourselves? We're been drinking alcohol for thousands of years and it seems to me that we built our social systems around it ourselves. Government in the US even tried banning it for a while, but it merely created something new for the criminals to traffic.

I think, like many things, moderation doesn't harm, but it's certainly something that seems to draw us into over indulgence. I think the jury is still out on whether small amounts can be good for you. It would depend on the drink and as so many seem to struggle to moderate it (like sugar) it probably isn't the best idea to promote it.

Then there's the question of medicinal use.

To me poison is poison even in moderation.

True, but poison can also be medicine when one is sick. The more we delve into and learn how foods affect our bodies, the more we realise that there is more to the complexities of how our bodies interact with things.

Your message is sound, though. I don't question that we'd all do better to curb our indulgence in alcohol.
