Plants are a good way of reducing stress and giving one peace of mind. They do so by diverting one’s attention temporarily from oneself.
Therapists say that by diverting one's attention to something else even temporarily can cause a shift in the mind and give the mind a break.
Many people have experienced the difference between an environment filled with stone and concrete and one that has lawns and plants. It feels very calm and peaceful in the latter. This experience is an indication that this is good for one's mental health.
To enhance this health benefits one needs to develop friendship with plants and dialogue with them more often. This, for instance, can be done by literally saying "hi" or "hello" or expressing appreciation when in the vicinity of plants.
Plants are not dormant dead things. They are living things and do communicate. Plants do communicate back in different ways. They communicate by their looks, color and texture. Some plants give us sweet and nutritious fruits others like the rose often have attractive colors and sweet aroma.
People who hang around plants and interact with them more often find plants very useful to be with. They develop less stress and have more peaceful experiences. When you create time to hang around plants more often and interact with them your mind will be rewarded with calmness and peacefulness.
