Menstrual Hygiene Management still a challenge.

in #health7 years ago

An increasing number of studies have found that girls in low-income settings miss or struggle at school during menstruation if they are unable to manage their menstrual hygiene effectively. This is because of the expensive sanitary facilities yet many of them are living in families where they depend on less than a $1 or $2 a day. This therefore causes a girl who can not afford buying these facilities to miss school, fearing they may be stigmatized. This has therefore increased school drops out among the girls which leads to an illiterate, unemployed and dependent population but also a challenge of having poor teenage mothers.

Intervention

Because of the nature of the economy of Uganda, for a long time people will continue poor or have insufficient funds where a dollar may not be sacrificed for "pads" or menstrual care but rather for food.
However with local materials like cotton cloth, PVC, Scissors, sewing machine or needles, the girls can be able make their own home made re-usable sanitary pads.
These re-usable sanitary pads can be cheaply maintained.

In my community I will help to pass this knowledge and if I am able, I hope to train some mothers who can later train young school girls for better #health.

My fellow #Steemians, lets continue sharing similar challenges and interventions on this platform to spread the knowledge.

Lets help these girls save a penny but stay healthy. "Re-usable home made sanitary pads".

Love
Julius.
