Thanks for writing on this important topic. However I would like to add something. I'm in my mid-50s and have never ever suffered from knee pain. I'm sure it's partly due to genetics, but I think there are two other important reasons:
- I always invest in good well-fitting shoes that hold my feet and legs in a good position and prevent my legs from over-prenating, ie, buckling inwards or outwards
- I do lots of walking and hillwalking, on a daily basis, which keeps the muscles and tendons around the knees strong and flexible.
I think the worst thing is when people do very little walking and drive everywhere, and then suddenly do a big long run or hillwalk, which puts a lot of strain on unexercised and inflexible muscles and tendons. You need to keep them moving every day.
