Our Aquaponic System Pt 1

We have decided to grow our own veggies and herbs, with an aquaponic system. This is our second type, as the first one went not so well, due to the lack of light.

So first we germinated our seeds in a seed-bead (from IKEA).

It took about two weeks to get little plants from it.

For the base/main box we also used one from IKEA, a simple plastic container. We bought two goldfish. It is the important part. As the fishes digest, they produce natural nutrients for the plants.

After we had the little seedlings we put them with the bog-moss to clay bullets. Container also from IKEA. We tucked in a rubber pipe, to let down the water. Hydroponic systems based on water circulation. Water from the fishes flods the clay tray, and the plants do not need concrete soil only water.

We built a light holder, that provides led light 8 hours per day. For now it is connected to a smart plug, with a timer.

We put the oxygen in a small ornament, maybe it provides fun for the fishes too.

We are not finished yet. We got a couple of sensors such as: water, humidity, light etc.. We still have to finish a code for these.

Thank You! :) Followed You back!

Nice start to the project. Look forward to seeing more!

Thank You!

What kind of herbs/veg are you planting? Nice project btw.

Thank You! coriander and we forgot the name for the other :D but i've just put new seeds in the seed-bed: basil and arugula! We've got plenty of tomato, lettuce, strawberry etc seeds too. You just need to chose plants that grow over the soil, not "rootplants". I'll continue to share this project and also the new seedlings :)

Awesome, growing your own is the way forward :)

Agree! And you can do this in a small apartment too, its truly great! And healthy too, im doing my phd in health sciences and its scary what we eat and whats in those foods..

Agreed, my brother does quit a lot of growing his own, which he graciously bestows upon us from time to time, you can check out some of his little vids if you're interested

Awesome!! Subscribed to his channel! I do also at spring/summer in our garden!

You actually have a aquaponic system. Without the fish it would be hydroponic system.

If you want a very self sufficient hydroponic system that doesn't use any electricity then I recommend Growbox 2.0 by Mike Adams from NaturalNews.com.

I also recommend that you subscribe to his weekly newsletter to get inform about the food revolution and herbal medicine from food you can grow.

Correct, i renamed it, thanks! Yeah, i know this product, awesome! But for now we stick for our diy project :)

Congratulations @nooriiii! You received a personal award!
