I am finally undertaking a fast with my cousin @jeremychalut, I know he's not currently blogging, but I'm still trying to recruit him and get him active. This guy is a pretty interesting character and could certainly add some great content to the platform. Over the last 2 years, he's dropped around 100lbs and switched to a Vegan Diet, which he is very passionate about and also studying the topic with some courses. He has also really found a spirituality and went from being your regular "guys, guy" about as deep as a puddle to being one of the deepest thinkers I know.
Anyways sorry for the interlude as always, I'm going to get a bit deeper than I usually do in the post today and plan to continue to reflect and delve a bit deeper in my blog over the next few days as well, as I try to make the most of this experience with the fast and think deeper about it as it happens. Of course also proclaiming it here on the blockchain, will hold me a bit more accountable and likely lead to more likelihood of success.
I wanted to talk about this fast and my reasoning.
First I will admit it may turn out to be difficult and I am willing to stop after 48 hrs and still call it a success, for me it is as much for my health, but also a mental challenge as well.
I find as I get older, my focus is slightly changing and I am now much more interested and worried about my long term health and longevity. My overall health is now more of the focus on my diet and exercise plan as well, then my looks or strength and speed like it used to be.
Fasting is often mentioned when I casually research habits that may increase longevity and overall health. This is the main health reason for considering and trying this out. I also have a bit of a fear of cancer, as 3 of my 4 grandparents and also my mother have been affected, so of course anything that will help mitigate that risk is something I want try. Fasting has also shown some benefit against neurodegenerative disease, which affects my only grandparent who doesn't have cancer.
Of course there are also many things I'm also trying to do mitigate these risks, like eating a more natural diet, including less processed foods and more home grown and natural food sources.
It can also be a spiritual and mental journey as well.
This is also something I find myself much more focused on in the recent years. I try to live my life at a slower pace, focusing on my family and experiences and time together.
I have actively taken up mindfulness meditation practices and have found in profoundly beneficial, even though I am not always a regimented with my practice as I want to be.
I also find myself looking for philosophical underpinnings to provide greater meaning and clarity to my life and actions, and find myself gravitating to stoic philosophy and stoicism.
I think fasting will also provide a great challenge in this respect and will also serve as a spiritual journey.
Wish my luck, and I'll let you know how it's going and delve deeper tomorrow

Vegan diet? Fasting? Now you're talkin' my language. I'm very interested to hear how you go on this. Are you doing juice or water fasting?
First of all I'm not vegan, but my cousin is and I need to recruit him a bit better (at least he'll have one active follower ;)). As for the fast, it will be water only. Have you fasted? Any advice?
Only juice. Not water.
Hmm, okay. Just water here! So far so good!

Best of luck on your fast. Even one day helps to clean out your body. Let us know how it goes. 🐓🐓
Thanks, so far so good, I'm going to post about it soon!
Just don’t go running a marathon or anything else requiring extra calories. 🐓🐓
Good luck @phelimint . Look forward to hearing about your findings.

Yeah, I think it's going to be an interested challenge for sure.

Wow, I think the detox and beating (my sugar/sweets) addiction benefits are good enough reason to do this fasting. Thanks for the links. I also saw some posts on intermittent fasting. Glad there's a lot of personal Steemit posts about this topic, "google search" is becoming obsolete.
