Cannabis Patch - Pain relief for fibromyalgia and diabetic neuropathy

in #health8 years ago

Hey Steemers!

I always thought that cannabis could be helpful for many health problems. Here is what I recently discover, which is a great news for people who have this kind of diseases.

A company specializing in the development of therapeutic medicine based on cannabis, recently announced the development of two new drugs for the relief of pain in people with fibromyalgia and painful diabetic neuropathy.

The two new pharmaceutical analgesics will be marketed in the form of transdermal adhesive patches which deliver a certain dose of drug into the bloodstream by absorption through the patient's skin. What constitutes a true medicinal revolution in the case of these two chronic conditions.

For those who don't know what Diabetic neuropathy is, it is a complication of diabetes. It is a very common disease in people with diabetes that has been evolving for many years and its occurrence is all the more premature as diabetes is poorly balanced.

Transdermal drug delivery routes have the potential to promote the healing of an injured area of the body. This method of administration may be superior to other types of drug delivery, including oral, topical, intravenous, intramuscular, and the like, due to additional control over the dose administered to the patient.

The patch provides a more controlled release of the drug either by using a porous membrane to allow the drug to be gradually absorbed through the skin, or by incorporating thin layers of the drug into the adhesive that melts with the body heat of the patient .

Cannabinoids now have an extended record, medical issues, dating back thousands of years. Currently, there are no number of peer-reviewed scientific publications documenting the underlying biochemical pathways modulated by cannabinoids.

I'm curious: under what conditions is THC and the necessary cannabanoids transdermally active? For example, you have to make a fat based solution, typically by cooking it in butter, to ingest them effectively. I wonder what sort of preparation is necessary for transdermal, and what sort of phase/combination it's in? Is there an article about this? Interesting post!
