Pole dancing - Dirty or Healthy ?

in #health8 years ago (edited)

Hey Steemers!

Formerly reserved for strippers, "pole dancing" is nowadays a sport discipline in its own right and open to all.

More and more women are practicing this activity which is now called the pole dance fitness, more politically correct than lap dance. There are now twenty schools in France, with an ever greater success!

On stage, the acrobatic figures are linked with a disconcerting natural. No strippers, but real gymnasts. The movements are sensual, but not seductive. The choreographies, rigorous and timed!

The origins of pole dance date back to the early 20th century in Canada. Troops of fairgrounds moved from town to town. In one of the small tents they installed, Hoochie-Coochie dancers, a sensual dance born in North America, made people wait between two numbers.

The central mast of the small tent first constituted a simple support for the dancers, who then integrated it into their dance. In the 50s, pole dance became a striptease in burlesque cabarets.

Discipline had its golden age in the 70s and 80s in the USA and Canada, and then extended to the United Kingdom and Australia. It is this last country that makes it a sport discipline, with the opening of schools and the beginning of the competitions.

It was in the early 90s that women began practicing pole dance. Since the 2000s, a series of associations and competitions have emerged, with a dual objective: to recognize the pole dancing as a sport, and eventually to integrate it into the Olympic Games.

To do this, the International Pole Sports Federation strives to erase the erotic image of pole dance by codifying the discipline and advocating a complete training of teachers.

No doubt, this "acrobatic dance" is above all a sport that requires endurance, agility and strength, two hours of pole dance equivalent to 6 hours of fitness !

Healthy!! that's for sure

amazing!! I'm loving pole.

Hi there! Very interesting post. I must confess i love pole dancing.. i do pole about 2 years now and its just amazing! I like it very much because it is very difficult and wants people with mental strength. Most people have connected pole dancing with strip shows and dirt as you said but challenge one of them to do a move and they will surely tell you its so difficult how did you ?? So, dancing does good to your soul and to your body!

Pole Dance actually requires a lot of strength, flexibilty and coordination.
You can differentiate between athletic pole (it's a mix of dancing and going gymnastics on a vertical pole) and exotic pole (sexy, slinky movements, you often wear high heels). But exotic pole dance is also really exhausting.

Actually neither of them is like lap dance.

In answer to your 'dirty or healthy' question my answer is
it is healthy in the athletic dance style and also in the exotic dancy style (as long as your teacher is good). Both build up muscle, you get better coordinating yourself, you work out. You get all the health benefits of regular sport, but (at least in my opinion) it is way more fun
