Is Sweetener really a good alternative?

Good afternoon my friends,

Who of you love sweets? Well, I definitely do! It already starts in the morning with my coffee – black and sweet. As I am trying to live more healthy, I started to substitute common sugar with sweeter.

The image is amazing: eat and drink as many sweet things as you want, without damaging your body. Everybody knows that sugar, when overconsumed, causes overweight, dental problems as well as diabetes. The media promise: you won’t have those problems by using artificial sweetener. Sounds perfect, doesn’t it? But is true?

Well, taking a look at the magazine “Plos One”, sweetener is not that good as we thought. However, it is supposed to cause even more belly fat than common sugar! In fact, there is a study with more than 1400 people with different alimentation habits. The result is suprising: people consuming artificial sweetener showed a 53% higher risk of gaining belly fat than participants who didn’t use sweetener. Moreover, they gained averagely 2,6 cm hip measurement.

Despite this surprisingly result, scientists aren’t sure if artificial sweetener really causes gain of weight. It also is possible that people consuming this substitute, think they could eat or drink more cake, coca-cola etc, because sweetener would make the balance.

Because of this, people think, they can consume much more without gaining weight.

So although it is not proved, you may think: what is better now? Sweetener or sugar? There are studies which prove that sweetener may influence the digestion and also the fat metabolism, but compare to common sugar, sweetener certainly causes less damages.

I am curious if there will be proves because of the belly fat one day. But until than, I will continue consuming sweetener or Stevia. However, if I want to make sure, I live healthier, I simply need to cut some things….Water instead of Coca Cola Zero, for example.

What do you think? Do you use Sweetener and have noticed some changes of your health? Tell me in the comments!

Probably sweetener but not by much.

The real focus should be on beating the sugar addiction. When I eliminated soda/fruit juice/added sugar products, life got a lot simpler.
