Flu season is already underway. Officially, flu season lasts from October to May in the U.S. More people travel around Thanksgiving more than any other time of year! So make sure you know how to protect yourself against getting the flu. No one wants to be sick around the holidays.
The best way to protect against the flu is to get vaccinated. Flu shots are free with most health insurance plans! Experts at the World Heath Organization think that this year could be a severe one for flu outbreak. Current flu shots prevent against many strains including H3N2 which infected many people last year. The only problem is that the flu virus is constantly changing, and it is hard to target the exact virus. So, even if you get the flu shot it is still possible to get the flu.
Symptoms
Watch out for these symptoms this winter:
Fever
Body aches/ chills
Sore throat
Cough
Runny nose
Fatigue
If you think you have the flu, stay home from work and wash your hands. It's important to try not to spread the flu to others. Since the flu is a virus, antibiotics will not work. However, there are antiviral drugs that a doctor can prescribe you such as Tamiflu. When you are sick, remember to drink plenty of water since it is easy to get dehydrated with a fever.
Hope everyone stays healthy this winter!!
