Most men use an after-shave lotion after shaving for disinfecting the skin, but these lotions are full of chemicals and might cause skin problems in the long run. There is a natural alternative available to after-shave lotions that is better in many aspects.
An alum block is one of the best natural alternatives to after-shave lotions. Before the discovery of these lotions, many people used alum after shaving. It has many advantages over after-shave lotions.
Disinfectant:
Alum is a natural disinfectant. It not only kills bacteria but also helps reduce irritation of the skin. It also helps stop small bleeds.
Cost-effective:
It is way cheaper than those costly after-shave lotions. A 100-gram alum block is available for less than a US dollar in India. However, I have seen that they are costlier online. You can purchase it in any medical store.
Healthier:
Alum is a naturally occurring mineral and has no side effects. After-shave lotions are made artificially with the use of a combination of different chemicals. These chemicals might have adverse effects on your skin and body in the long term.
Easy to handle:
Most of the after-shave lotions are filled in a bottle. If you mishandle the bottle, it might break. An alum block comes in a paper or plastic box. You just need to store it in a clean place. It can withstand small falls and is easier to handle.
Eco-friendly:
Manufacturing of after-shave lotions involves chemicals and hence causes water, as well as other forms of pollution, which is bad for the environment. Alum is found naturally and hence is more eco-friendly.
Other than an alum block, there are many other natural alternatives to after-shave lotions, like aloe vera gel, coconut oil, etc. If all men in the world start using these natural alternatives, it would have a significant impact on the environment.

I use seawater instead as aftershave and disinfectant, ear and eye drops, mouth wash, antacid, anti fungal, skin softener, digestive help, etc.

That is a really good alternative. I did not know about that.
