How To Maintain Health of Your Eyes

in #health7 years ago

Eyes are the five most important human senses. Can be imagined if we suffer eye damage or blindness, we can not enjoy and feel how beautiful the universe is.

In fact we often forget to do eye care, but like other parts of the body, the eyes may be affected by disorders or health problems. These disturbances can be caused by unclean or polluted air, solar radiation, radiation from too long in front of the computer, and other disturbances.

A study conducted by Eye Disease Prevalence Research Group (2004) estimates that by 2020 the number of people with eye disease and blindness in the world will reach 55 million people. The study also mentions that eye disease and blindness will increase especially for those who are over 65 years old. A person aged 80 years and over who constitutes 8% of the total population, suffered 69% blindness.

Common eye health disorders are decreased visual function, red eye symptoms without decreased visual function, and red eyes with decreased vision function. To date, many eye diseases are cataracts, glaucoma, and infections.

Along with the increased attention and knowledge of the influence of nutrition on health, especially eye health leads to rapid growth of the market for health products, medicinal food, health food, health medicines, dietary supplements, health supplements, herbal remedies, natural remedies. Most of the products for eye health that are marketed now take the form of supplements, medicinal food, health food, health medicines, dietary supplements, health supplements, herbal remedies, natural remedies. In addition to the antioxidant compounds (vitamins A, C, and E) previously known to improve eye health, other compounds such as lutein, zeaxanthin, and astaxanthin, have recently been recognized as compounds that can improve eye health.

Lutein is a group of yellow carotenoid compounds found in green vegetables. Lutein is present in the macula and is believed to protect the eyes from oxidative damage by ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

Macula is in the middle of the retina and is directly adjacent to the lens of the eye. Macules are small areas that contain millions of cells that help produce sharp eyesight to read or see objects clearly.

Another carotenoid compound present in the macula is zeaxanthin, which is known to provide benefits for eye health.

Research conducted by Chitchumroonchokchai and colleagues in 2004 from Ohio State University, shows that lutein and zeaxanthin can protect human lens cells from UV exposure, which is the main cause of cataract disease. In addition, they compared the antioxidant activity of lutein and zeaxanthin with vitamin E. The results showed that lutein and zeaxanthin showed activity 10 times higher compared with vitamin E in protecting lens cells from ultraviolet light damage.

In the same year also conducted research by Neuringer and colleagues, showed the ability of lutein and zeaxanthin in improving eye health. While testing in animals sponsored by DSM Nutritional Products Switzerland, showed that supplementation or addition of lutein and zeaxanthin increased antioxidant activity in the blood.

Another group of carotenoid compounds that have the ability to protect the macula from UV exposure are astaxanthin. Guerin et al. (2003) mentioned that the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capabilities of astaxanthin compounds can provide an eye protection effect from UV rays.

To date, the antioxidant activity of lutein, zeaxanthin, and astaxanthin compounds provides an answer to the mechanism of increased eye health. Free radicals from UV rays or air contaminants enter the eye resulting in oxidation reactions of susceptible molecules in the lens of the eye.

In order for the eyes can be maintained health, it's good we do the following eye health care tips:

1.Check the eyes every 12 months

Unhandled vision problems will develop worse, preferably avoiding wearing contact lenses or glasses that no longer work for you because it can cause vision problems and headaches.

2.The anti-UV glasses

UV rays can make serious damage to the eyes. Good glasses can prevent this. When purchasing glasses, make sure that can reflect at least 98% UV radiation.

3.Nutrition for the Eyes

Recent studies have shown that vitamins and antioxidant groups can prevent, or at least slow the macular degeneration and cataract growth. Good nutrition for the body is also good for the eyes.

4.Use of sufficient light

Working with minimal light can cause eye fatigue, but light that is too bright is also not good. The best light direction when working using a computer is from a soft luminous table lamp from the side. Reduce the brightness (brightness) of the monitor. The color of online pharmacy no prescription is not too sharp, but the eyes will be more comfortable.

5.Rest your eyes

Almost everyone feels their eyes become uncomfortable after sitting all day in front of a computer screen. This is because the eyes blink 25% less than usual, which causes the eyes to dry. One thing you can do is close your eyes and count to 5 before reopening it. Another thing is to turn away from the monitor screen and focus on a distant object. Do this for a few minutes every 30 minutes.

6.Look for contact lenses with good quality

Not all contact lenses are the same. Some are safe for your eyes, and some are at risk of damaging the eyes.

7.If wearing contact lenses, treat them well

Contact lenses are not so troublesome, but you also can not ignore the cleanliness. Whenever wearing or removing your contact lenses, rinse. You also have to replace the liquid, when you put in place when you sleep at night.

8.Wear contact lenses according to the recommended schedule

There are people who save money by wearing contact lenses longer than intended. This is not a good thing. Although the quality of the lens will not decrease, the protein pile can obscure your eyesight. Another thing to consider is, the longer you wear your contact lenses, the higher your eye the risk of infection.

9.Use monitor filters.

To reduce the glare and radiation emitted by the monitor screen, use the monitor glass filter. Talk to your computer equipment vendor to get a good filter and be able to reduce the effects of radiation, not just dim the monitor light.

10.Put the paperwork for easy reading when in front of the computer.

If you have to work by copying or reading paper work, place the paper at a distance that is equal to your monitor. This is so you do not have to shift and focus the view to read your paper work, after reading on the monitor screen.
