You would start off bench pressing 100 pounds for 8 reps of 3 sets and then the next time you do your bench press workout…
You would then begin to progressively overload your chest, shoulders and triceps muscles to make them bigger & stronger by bench pressing at least 101 pounds, doing at least 9 reps and/or 4 sets and then after that…
You would progressively keep repeating the process of lifting heavier weight, doing more reps and/or sets until you've built enough muscle mass to reach your goal.
Imagine how much bigger your muscles will be as you gradually work your way up to lifting 200, 300 or even 400+ pounds or Imagine how much bigger your muscles will be when you're lifting 100+ pounds for 15 reps instead of only 5 reps.

With compound exercises you're working on multiple muscles at the same time instead of only ONE muscle at a time with isolation exercises.
Yes, you can still build muscle doing isolation exercises like bicep curls but your biceps will get bigger much faster doing a compound exercise like chin-ups because you're lifting a much heavier weight (your own bodyweight) plus you'll be building muscle mass on your back & chest.
