Mental health - don't take it easy

in #health7 years ago

Unfortunately mental health is not considered seriously in my country. The older generation doesn't believe that there can be any issue with the mental health.

My friend once told me that he had been staying depressed for long and felt like ending his life. I suggested him to talk to his parents and get them to take him to a therapist. He was reluctant, but did so on my insistence and I would be joking if I am saying I am not repenting on my advice. His parents told him that he was stupid to think about going to a therapist because all they do is prescribe sedatives and empty your pockets. He visited a therapist on his own and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He is recovering now and his parents are least bothered.

Mental health can be a lot more dangerous than physical heath. So, if you feel your loved one is suffering then don't waste time waiting for the phase to pass, because it probably will never do.

Sort:

Not to make light; but, it seems they were right…sorta’

He visited a therapist on his own and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

It’s too bad he didn’t seek out the help of a holistic therapist who support herbal remedies. BD seems to be the diagnosis of the day for most psychiatrists; and, strong psychotropic meds are usually part of the ‘remedy’.

He is recovering now and his parents are least bothered.

Most cultures believe in the ‘get over yourself’ form of healing. This is quite unfortunate; because, talking to someone gifted/trained in the helping ministry is of more use than talking to someone who doesn’t have the ‘ear’ to listen.

Mental health can be a lot more dangerous than physical health.

Yes, mental health is crucial for overall wellbeing. But, I do believe there’s a fine line between numbing one’s self with meds; and, actually receiving the help that allows one to work through life issues.

Best regards.

Peace.

Nice post brother, have a nice day 😎😎😎

Yeah you are right dear..

More awareness needs to be spread about mental illness. It is not always just being mad as people mostly think.
