Bitter melon who have Latin name Momordica charantia is believed to be able to lower blood sugar levels of people with diabetes. Bitter melon has a substance very similar to the insulin content in the body. Although not as strong as insulin produced by the body, but it turns out when consumed regularly, the benefits of bitter melon can lower levels of sugar in the body.
In a study published by Asian Pasific Journal of Tropical Disease revealing that fruits have several active ingredients such as charantin, alkaloids, vicine, and peptides are also reported to trigger insulin release activity.

Active charantin substances work to stimulate the growth of beta cells in the pancreas, the organ that produces insulin. In diabetic patients, beta cells are damaged so that the pancreas can not produce enough insulin.
The study found that vegetable bitter melon works in two ways to regulate blood sugar. First, the combination of chemical compounds in bitter melon is able to regulate how much glucose is absorbed by the intestines into the blood after a meal. Second, the chemical compounds present in the bitter melon stimulate signals on the muscle cells to take glucose from the blood and convert it into glycogen.
But there are some things to note when processing bitter melon for consumption. In order to keep the benefits awake, try the bitter melon not cooked for too long, just boiled or steamed to taste. or even enough with the juice.
